Everyone Else Takes Ages To Die

While playing Overwatch, I noticed that I am pretty much always the first to die. I die super fast and generally from behind. There is so much going on that I can’t tell where all this damage is coming from. A lot of this is just basic newbie stuff. After all, there are 30 characters which I need to learn to recognise. I’m a brand new player and not overly good at FPS games in general.

However, what I can’t seem to shake is just how long it takes for me to kill someone. Everyone else doesn’t die instantly like me, and I have to empty multiple clips to actually kill someone. I’d like to say that it’s bad aim on my part, but my aim isn’t THAT bad. I can’t get headshots but I can regularly hit centre mass. No matter what I do though, no matter how many bullets and projectiles I fire, no one dies. They kill me in one hit and move on. I’m a candle flame compared to a flamethrower. Especially as I am still learning and unlocking characters. 150 games and I’ll have everyone aside from Kiriko.

I really don’t think it’s just me though. I’ve been watching other people playing Overwatch. They’re definitely better than me, but I notice the same stuff. Everyone seems to take ages to die.

You fill the enemy with tons of shurikens, shoot them with arrows and fire rockets across the map. They are still alive. And then someone uses an automatic aimingĀ  ultimate that one-shots you or stuns you or whatever.

And then we have tanks. I know it’s the job of the tank to, well, tank damage. They’re generally full of health and have some sort of crowd control. But these guys are massively tanky. They just don’t die at all. Unless it’s me playing tank.

I say that, I haven’t actually gotten to play a tank yet. I always end up playing as support, even when I select the flex role. Seems that Overwatch really, really can’t find enough people to play as support.

Seriously though. Everyone takes forever to die.

I think most of this though is because there is so much healing to go around. We always have two supports now, and at least one of them is focused on healing and little else. And a lot of non-support characters have healing too. It’s insanely easy to get back to full health, even in the middle of battle. Throw in a bunch of massive shields everywhere and of course no one is gonna die.

And honestly? I don’t really enjoy it. Fights seem to take forever to conclude, and the game ends up taking a while to end. If it wasn’t for the fact that most game modes have timers, countdowns and generally force there to be a winner, it’d be quite easy for a match to go on forever.

Luckily, that isn’t the case. Whether it’s king of the hill or the robot escort missions, all matches come to an end eventually. Even if everyone else refuses to die.
