More Pokemon You Should Definitely Give Second Moves To

A while back, I discussed giving second moves to Pokemon. Doing so is pretty expensive in a lot of cases, so it’s always worth considering how much stardust you have and what will actually be useful. While you could just put double moves on any Pokemon, sometimes the stardust and candy costs are too much for not very little.

Here are some more Pokemon that do well with a second move. And be sure to check our previous article about other Pokemon with second move potential.

Pokemon that are worth having two moves on
Pokemon that are worth having two moves on

Metagross

This first entry is mainly for PvP. Metagross is a monster in PvE but it’s also still a monster in PvP. With the stupidly powerful move Meteor Mash (not to be confused with Meteor Beam), Metagross is the dominant steel type in the game. But it also works really well as a generic move as well, even if it’s not super-effective. However, Metagross’s worst enemy is itself. For

Rhyperior

The monster that is Rhyperior is a massive choice when doing raids. It’s bulky and it has one of the best moves, Rock Wrecker, in the game, just behind Metagross with its Meteor Mash. In fact, Rhyperior is technically the best rock type. However, Rhyperior is also a great ground type as well. So if you don’t have a bunch of Groudons or Excadrills, then you can throw in the odd Rhyperior with Earthquake.

Rhyperior is also a great choice for PvP. Its typing isn’t amazing, but Rhyperior gets a lot of good secondary moves. Rock Wrecker NEEDS to be put on any Rhyperior for it to be good, but with second moves like Surf and Super Power, you can also unleash some surprises in both PvP and in Team Rocket fights.

Steelix and other Megas

Mega Pokemon are insanely powerful, even if they are rather temporary. These days though, we can get more use out of our Mega Pokemon, and evolving them is pretty cheap, if not free in some cases. Because of their usefulness though, it’s actually worth giving a lot of them two moves. In Steelix’s case, it is both Steel and Ground, so it can boost both. However, for maximum potential, it’s good to have two moves, one for Steel and one for Ground, so you always have the right move when mega-evolving.

Gyarados makes a quick reappearance here for the same reason. Mega Gyarados is water and dark, so needs moves for both.

Purified Sableye

This entry here is another PvP option, but it’s very important. Sableye is a great little Pokemon and it has the potential to terrorize everywhere it goes in PvP. In this case, you actually do get a discount, because Purified Pokemon costs are cheaper than normal stardust and candy costs. In this instance though, we actually want the purified move Return, which works as a brilliant cover move for Sableye. The second move depends on your mood, but Shadow Sneak is at least a quick, spammy move you can throw out.

It also will get a Mega Evolution at some point, although I don’t know how useful it will be, because Sableye’s CP doesn’t go very high.

Budew

There are some Pokemon that you need to give a second move to when they’re not evolved. Baby Pokemon are much, much cheaper to give second moves to, and this is especially true with Budew. Budew’s evolution, Roserade, is a great grass and poison type Pokemon, but it’s best given second moves while it’s still a Budew. As for what moves you want on Roserade? I generally go with Sludge Bomb and a grass move of my choice. The community day move Weather Ball Fire is more of a spicy pick for PvP, but its other moves are all good.

So there we have it, even more Pokemon you should give secondary moves to. Just don’t forget about double-moving your baby Pokemon before you evolve them!
