My First Level 50 Pokemon

Getting XL Candy can be tedious. Normally, there are only a handful of ways to get XL Candy. Walking a buddy will net you one XL for every small distance, and takes forever, earning one XL Candy at a time. The best way is to simply catch Pokemon, but that is also random. You may get 5 XL Candy in some cases, but most of the time, you get one XL Candy per catch if you’re lucky. However, aside from doing Legendary raids for Legendary Pokemon, getting XL Candy consistently is hard. Because of this, there are only a few ways to get XL Candy in a plentiful amount: Community Days.

Problem is, Community Days only contain one Pokemon in large amounts. And most Pokemon don’t even get Community Days. What makes matters worse is that a lot of Pokemon don’t even spawn that much, thanks to all the events and seasons.

So when I first heard of Larvitar Community Day Classic, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. You see, I have this Tyranitar. It’s a very specific Tyranitar. Not only does it have perfect IVs, but it’s also a Shadow Pokemon. I never expected there to be a chance to catch XL Candy, but here I was, catching for my life. And, to my credit, I actually did manage to get the candy I required. In fact, I got so much candy that I could get another Tyranitar into the level 40-43 range. But for my main Tyranitar, I did need 336 XL Candy, which is quite a bit higher than normal Pokemon. Even Legendary Pokemon require 296 candies, but being a Shadow Pokemon, my Tyranitar needed more.

Helping me out this entire time was Mega Steelix, a level 2 Mega. This meant that I had a higher chance of getting XL Candy while Mega Steelix was active.

After the community day, the first thing I did was power up my Shadow Tyranitar. It cost me 250k experience, thereabout. But it was worth it. this guy is now my favourite level 40+ Pokemon, and it deserves it, considering how my Tyranitar has been in so many raid teams. It also gets used against Team Rocket grunts. So not only is a level 50 Shadow Tyranitar cool, it’s also practical.

All that being said, I actually already have a few nearly-50 Pokemon. the difference with them is that I have (most of) the XL Candy available, but I don’t have a perfect Pokemon to make into a level 40+ Pokemon. No one is quite worthy enough. Except for my Hornier, my level 49.5 Rhyperior. I had intended to keep him at level 49 so I’d be ready for the level 46 challenge of getting multiple Pokemon to level 50. But at the rate I am earning experience, it’s so far off that I might as well just max out the stuff I like.

Plus, that challenge is very easy to do with Melmetal. Thanks to being a. a mythical Pokemon with guaranteed XL candy and b. a Pokemon that can be caught en masse, it’s much easier to simply level up a Melmetal for the level 50 Pokemon challenge.

As to what I’ll power up next? I’ve been looking at a perfect IVs Hydreigon but that will need a ton of stardust. Still, I have the candy required to level it up further, but requiring stardust gets in the way. There’s also a 100% Machamp, but I’m still a bit short on XL Candy. But in the mean time, WonderShadow can remain on top, as glorious as it is.
