Pokemon Violet and Stalking

Everyone in Pokemon Violet is stalking me.

I’m not normally a paranoid person, at least I am not any more, but something is massively bothering me in the new Pokemon games. Since day 1, I have been some sort of prodigy, some super powerful trainer, despite mostly fluking my way through with just a cat made of grass and a dog with horns and a devil tail. Honestly, it’s mostly the weed cat. But yeah, everyone seems to know who I am and everyone seems to know where I am too. At first, I just thought it was my rival, Nemona, but nope, everyone seems to have a gps system designed to track ne wherever I go.

Okay, sure, part of this is just basic gameplay stuff. I’m the protagonist, everyone of course is going to know me, but Pokemon Violet really takes it to extreme levels. I’ve only done three gyms so far and at two of them, I was accosted by some random NPC telling me that I am super strong and a natural talent or something, then warning me that I have a tough road ahead. Not only are they stating the obvious, they are all also stuck on their high horses, as if this weird teenager isn’t going to level up and fight them.

But even your supposed friends do this. Immediately after you are told to go and do your treasure hunt, you are blocked by Nemona, Sandwich Boi and Hacker on my Rotom phone, all begging me to follow them on their adventures. Like, back off, guys. I’m just a random kid. Why am I being told to do all this stuff? Heck, why do I not see anyone else following Nemona and her gym challenges? How old is Nemona anyway? We share the same classes but she is way ahead of me when it comes to school things in general. Like, she’s the student president and everyone knows her, while I have literally just started at the academy.

What bothers me the most though is Team Star. For some reason, I appear to be fighting them on my own. Okay, the headmaster disguised as a student is kinda there to help, but they’re still sending out a kid to defeat an entire gang. With only 3 Pokemon as well. And by doing this, I am rewarded with a massive pile of Pokemon parts.

Yes, actual Pokemon parts. Because defeating a wild Pokemon will reward you with ingredients to make your own TMs. I mean, I get some cash too, but still, what a weird reward.

I’m also surprised that Nemona wants nothing to do with dealing with Team Star, because it’s got a huge amount of battling to do. Doubly so because one of the Team Star bosses is a former student president.

But yes, everyone seems to know where I am and what I am doing and all that. I kinda feel like some sort of slave, and it’s been a pain in my butt, trying to do my treasure hunt while everyone throws jobs at me. Just let me do gyms and stuff at my own pace, and stop going on about how awesome I am, because I just happen to have Pokemon with the right typings to counter a gym.

Maybe I am being too harsh. Wouldn’t be the first time. After all I have written annoying pieces on all sorts of Pokemon related things. Especially about Dragonite. But everyone in Pokemon Violet just seems so damn insistant when it comes to getting me to do things. Doesn’t help that there is a somewhat specific way to play through Violet, due to everything being at a specific level. The freedom of doing what you want is mostly covered up by having everyone demand you do things for them, as well as fixed levels for all the things they want us to do anyway.

Sure, I can wander around as I please. But all these characters very much use me as their work horse. And that just kinda sucks…
