Warframes I Should Play More

Warframe now has over 50 Warframes you can play with. But somehow, I keep on sticking to the same few Warframes. To the point that my time spent as Volt accounts for about a third of my playtime (on both Volt and Volt Prime). However, I could really do with stretching myself a bit and playing some different frames. But what Warframes fill the role I want when playing casually? Volt has always been a jack of all trades, and I want that in other Warframes too.

Criteria

Volt has got a lot going for him. He can speed through missions, he can nuke maps and he has an awesome electric shield that only seems to get used in Eidolon hunts. There’s not many places that Volt seems out of place, except maybe Spy missions. But even then, any Warframe can do Spy missions with a bit of practice. My problem is, aside from Spy missions, is anyone as versatile as Volt? Probably. But are they as smooth and fast as Volt? After all, there are other speedster frames, like Titania and Nova, but they don’t involve running about.

Really, for most Warframes, there’s something I don’t like about them. I don’t like specialists that much. Sure, Saryn has a speed boost with her augment, but I find her hard to build around because she relies a bit too much on having lots of enemies and lots of spores.

So who’s left?

There are plenty of Warframes. After all, we have over 50 of them. And the first and most obvious frame left is Gauss. I do actually like Gauss as a Warframe and do play him occasionally. And, of course, Gauss is a speedster. Is he a better speedster than Volt? That’s up to debate, but Volt just about wins since his speed is based on power strength and not sprint speed like Gauss has. But a Gauss boosted by a Volt can run across the Plains of Eidolon faster than an Archwing.

Khora is my second most-played frame after Volt, and she is a pretty good choice. She can deal with pretty much anything, and can do huge damage numbers as well. But I am a bit bored of playing her as well. Same with Ivara, but I only use her for public Spy missions.

But a couple of other Warframes have caught my eye recently. Citrine, the newest Warframe as of writing, also has a bit of everything. She has both damage and damage resistance, and is obtained relatively easily. Nezha is also another contender. After all, he has speed and damage reduction that I can give to others via Warding Halo, and crowd control isn’t too bad either. I just can’t be bothered to forma Nezha Prime, because I mostly hate leveling up Warframes.

However, we actually have a new front-runner in the form of Styanax. The Spartan Warrior Warframe offers a little bit of everything. A bit of damage here and there, some nice ragdolling and a way to get overshields quite easily. There’s something about Styanax that I really enjoy. Spamming harpoons at enemies and sucking them together is a lot of fun, although a tad harder in more open maps. But what I really love is thwacking enemies with a shield. It’s so satisfying. My only real complaint is that you can’t use the shield and spear as actual weapons, they’re just in the abilities.

But really, I’m just being fussy. Maybe I’ll just randomize a little and see what I get. Might be a good way to try something new…
