These Team Leader Events Suck

As of writing, in Pokemon GO, we are in Season 10 – Rising Heroes. As part of this season, we’ve had some various hero-related thingumabobs, although you probably didn’t notice. As part of this season though, we had three events based on the leaders of teams Mystic, Instinct and Valor. And boy do these team events suck.

Firstly, there’s not even any friendly competition between them. I kinda expected that we’d have some sort of competition or contest to reach some sort of milestone, but no, there’s nothing about it. What we got instead were three events, one after the other, as well as a special research quest for each leader. And these events were all very boring.

Each quest features a team leader looking for help to research whatever their main theme is. For Blanche, team Mystic’s leader, we had an event about evolving Pokemon, since that is what she normally researches. For Spark of team Instinct, his event features hatching eggs, since he studies how Pokemon breed. And Candela of team Valor is into battling with Pokemon, so that’s what we do too.

However, all three of these events have been terribly boring. The bonuses from each event are not particularly interesting or even particularly obvious. Especially in Spark’s event, which apparently had increased chances of hatching shinies from eggs. Sounds cool and potentially good, but it’s not something you can obviously see or even control. Nothing but pure luck. For the Valor event, we got a higher chance of XL candy from Pokemon we catch, but there are no interesting spawns. So unless you really want XL candy for Patrat or Pidove, it’s all rather pointless.

What’s really weird is that we haven’t really had any interesting spawns. None of these events have unique spawns, it’s just the normal seasonal spawns. And they’re not good. It’s mostly Pidove, Patrat, Caterpie and Weedle, the odd Aron here and there, and things like Drifloon and Woobat based on weather conditions. Not even Team Rocket Pokemon are that interesting. The only thing the Valor event had going for it was raids for Mega Pinsir, and the raids for the other two events were insanely awful. After all, who is going to waste a raid pass on a Ledyba? I suppose at least you get a free incubator and incense from Spark, but that and Mega Pinsir are the best things in all three events.

I don’t get why these events are so lackluster. Considering that these guys are the leaders of the three teams, representing millions of players, the good guys who keep Team Rocket at bay (at least, theoretically). We don’t even get matching spawns. Like, we should have had water and ice spawns for the Mystic event, electric types for the Instinct event and fire types for the Valor event. But we got none of that. Just a handful of small bonuses and that’s it.

I suppose, on the plus side, these crap events mean you can take a bit of a break from Pokemon GO. Perhaps restock on Pokeballs or whatever, just not play for a bit. The special research is there forever, and the rewards aren’t amazing. There’s no real need to play right now, so taking a break is probably a good idea…
