They need to be bigger/smaller…

When I used to play Pixelmon, I spent a lot of time hunting oddly sized Pokemon. The server I played on had special items that randomly changed the size of a specific Pokemon, and you could make your Pokemon either incredibly tiny or incredibly huge. Being someone who had played for quite a while in that server, I accumulated a lot of the size-randoming item, and I used them on quite a few Pokemon. Legendaries would be made huge, while Pokemon I like a lot were made tiny. My favourite Pokemon was a shiny Houndoom that I had made tiny. There were like 6 different sizes to randomize with, and Pokemon also increased in size as they leveled up.

Now, Pokemon GO also has Pokemon with different sizes. However, these sizes are nowhere near extravagant. In fact, they are hardly noticeable! And they are much, much more random. Well, I say that, it’s just luck whether you get one or not. But in Pokemon GO, there are only three sizes to choose from: normal, XXL and XXS. And the vast majority of Pokemon are normal sized. Whether a Pokemon is big or small or not is completely random, the same way shiny Pokemon are. Except a lot more common than shinies.

No, I haven’t found a XXS or XXL shiny yet. Meanwhile my brother has a XXS shiny shadow Articuno. I’ve had really shitty luck lately.

Anyway, back to what I was saying. These sizes are random. But you can actually already see height and weight stats on every Pokemon you catch. The game even points out a Pokemon’s size, which can be normal, XS, XXS, XL or XXL. But the actual visible size changes only on Pokemon that are XXL or XXS. Anything else and they’re just normal size.

That’s a pity though. I feel like all Pokemon in Pokemon GO should have different sizes. They have different sizes in the main game, so why not here in Pokemon GO? Surely it’s not that hard to randomly scale a model up or down, just a little bit.

But in all honesty, you can’t always tell whether a Pokemon is XXL or XXS or not. The size different is actually pretty damn small, to the point that you don’t always notice. There’s no way of comparing them either, you kinda have to just use your memory. I did recently luck out and get an XXL Wailmer during the Axew Community Day, which I immediately evolved and made my buddy. But the size change was hardly noticeable. The only good way of telling is to swipe left or right and compare between screens. But that’s not always an option if you don’t own a normal Pokemon.

My XXL Wailord. It’s hard to tell.

Really, these Pokemon should be WAY bigger. Or way smaller. My XXL Wailord only looks massive when you swipe left and right to compare it to a normal Wailord. And even then, it’s not THAT much bigger. It just covers more of its CP. Seriously, on so many Pokemon, it’s barely noticeable. There’s no reason why we should limit how big or small they can get. Yet here we are, a place where the extra size isn’t obvious.

Sure, making Pokemon bigger might mess with the UI for a bit, but small Pokemon won’t be a problem at all.

I don’t see why we can’t have more differently sized Pokemon. Doesn’t seem too hard to do…

I found out the other day that when you evolve XXL/XXS Pokemon, they count as a new Pokémon for the “Catch 25 XXL/XXS Pokémon” badge. Consjdsring how rare they seem to be for me, that’s been a real relief!
