RIP My Black Pen

Whenever I draw something, I often want to outline it in black pen. After all, my pencil line art is very messy, to say the least. I draw lines over lines over lines with my pencils, and it’s very easy for my pencil work to all smudge together into one horrible line of grey. So in order for my drawings to not end up in a giant, massive, grey mess, I use a black pen and go over all the lines with that. Once I’m done with the black lines, I can then erase all the pencil lines, leaving a nice, clean look that I can then scan or photo in order to make it in a digital form. And once it’s digitalized, I can then colour the picture in via my art program of choice.

Now, I normally have a specific pen which I use for this. I do have several black pens on hand, but I do have a favourite pen. A couple of years ago, back when my sister lived in the capital, we went to this really nice arts and crafts shop. I had no idea what it was called, nor can I really remember where it is located, but it was all-round a really cool art shop. I ended up buying a few bits and pieces, like some metallic pencils, a nice eraser and some black ink pens.

One of those pens, I have been using it for ages. It’s called a uni Posca, and I have no idea what that means. On the underneath of the pen, it references a Mitsubishi Pencil Co. LTD as well as a link to posca.com, which I have never visited. If you shake the pen around, you can ear a ball inside it. The thickness of the pen is 0.7mm, which is quite chunky. And the whole pen is black.

Normally, my pen lives in my (rather messy) pen pot, alongside a ruler, a clothes peg, some scissors and probably too many pencils. It is almost always in the pot at the front, for easy access. But for some reason, this week, my pen simply wasn’t there. I moved all my stuff around, thinking maybe I knocked it out or something. Then I checked on the floor and around my desk, thinking that I had dropped it. But unfortunately, I came up with nothing.

I continued to look around for the rest of the week, having no idea where it could have gone. I hadn’t moved anything around lately, aside from a couple of dragon plushies that I moved to my desk. All my other pens and pencils were still there, which made the disappearance even more random. I checked under my laptop stand, I checked in the bag where I keep my Switch, I checked behind the bottle of dry shampoo I keep just in case. As far as I was concerned, it was gone.

Pens going missing is a common thing in this household, but they’re not known for reappearing. I checked everywhere. Well, mostly everywhere. I also checked in my brother’s pen pot, to see if he had accidentally borrowed my pen. But no, that wasn’t the case. It seemed like my only answer to this problem was to buy a whole new pen. Maybe buy a few of them. Maybe…

Wait, never mind.

I found it.

I have no idea how my black pen ended up in my jewellery drawer, but somehow that was where it was hiding. Nestled between two black bracelets and a black necklace. Crisis averted, I can go back to drawing now. Well, if I’m in the mood, I guess…
