Squirtle Classic Community Day

Classic Community Days are always fun. They bring back a popular Pokemon that has a special move and then pretend it’s a normal community day. But often, the popular Pokemon has been missing for a long time (or at least, its special move has been missing), so it’s a great opportunity to go out and catch some Pokemon. Squirtle Classic Community Day was basically one of those, with a tiny twist.

So the catching of these Squirtles was pretty normal. None of them had party hats on, that had been disabled prior to the event. There were enough spawns and we caught them. However, what was different was the research. Rather than giving out pokeballs or pinaps, the research tasks gave us an encounter with Squirtle. Not just any Squirtle though, the Sun Glasses Squirtle. Which also had a chance to be shiny. And this was on pretty much every Pokestop, not just a few like in previous Community Days. Of course, there’s a limited chance to get the shiny sun glasses Squirtle, since you’re restricted to how many Pokestops you have, so it’s all pure luck.

As to how useful Blastoise is? Well, Blastoise does have a mega form and it’s a good all-round Pokemon. Hydro Cannon is probably its best move, and that’s the move it got for this Community Day. Swampert is a bit better, but if you need some water types, then Blastoise is absolutely fine. In PvP, I think Blastoise is pretty good since it does have a few coverage moves in the form of Ice Beam and Skull Bash. Again, Swampert is a bit better, but that double weakness to grass can sometimes really hurt. In PvE, Blastoise makes for an alright water type, but the problem is that, well, Swampert is just too good, as is Kyogre. The same unfortunately applies to Mega forms as well. Mega Swampert is better but both it and Blastoise are massively beaten by Primal Kyogre, which is insanely powerful.

A 100% Squirtle with sun glasses

I played this community day with a couple of friends. Rather than going to city hall, where there is a massive number of spawns, we stuck to the small area I live in, where it was slightly less sunny. We actually wandered into the next village over, and span all the Pokestops there as well. As for our luck, me and the guy managed 5 shinies, while the gal managed to get an amazing 11 shinies. But I think I had a smidge of good luck since I managed to get a 100% IVs sun glasses Squirtle. Which, once I have finished walking my Salazzle, I will probably start walking. I did also manage to get a shiny sun glasses Squirtle too, but its stats are terrible.

I also got a bit sun-burnt, which isn’t good. But at least it’s just a bit on my chest and face, since I was wearing something that covered my shoulders and arms.

Either way, it was a quiet Community Day, but an enjoyable one. And it was a nice surprise to have sun glasses Squirtle included in this event.
