The Final Piece of Pirate Fashion

When I first started playing Sea of Thieves, I didn’t have much when it came to clothing. I also had basically no gold, so there wasn’t much I could buy anyway. However, after a few hours of playing, I did unlock some clothing from the season pass though, and I put together what I thought was a pretty simple outfit. Apparently, this outfit was really cool, according to other people, and I quite liked it as well, since it matched together quite nicely. At the next outpost, I bought a couple of pairs of boots and a hat to go with my costume, and I felt I looked pretty good.

However, this outfit wasn’t perfect. I did later find some better boots and trousers. I also added an eye patch and picked up the Ashen Curse, but there was still something missing from my look. The hat was wrong. I needed a better hat. My good friend Bacxaber though had the answer: I needed Sarwan’s hat to complete my look.

But to get this hat, I would need to do a LOT of work. Sarwan’s hat, better known as the Servant of the Flame’s Hat, was a reward for completing Legends of the Veil. This mission, tied to the Athena’s Fortune faction, involved collecting three magical stones and stopping a ghost fort from trying to merge realities together. Which is kinda… worrying in a game like Sea of Thieves, which is kinda lighthearted. Luckily, the quest isn’t that long, and can be done in about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on luck and what sections we get. You see, Legend of the Veil can have several different paths. Sometimes you need to find a key on a bunch of sunken ships. Sometimes you need to fight off ghosts with the help of some Aztec-like people. Other times, you need to search an island looking for an old man who has information and a map for you.

The small problem? I needed to do 50 of these Legends of the Veil. And I don’t play that much. So this process took me forever. Process was slow and tedious, and made worse by the fact that sessions can be sporadic or take a long time. Sometimes we’d do Veil quests and blaze through them, other times we’d have to deal with assholes trying to mess with our quest. And occasionally we’d get stuck on a section simply because we’d be unable to find Suds.

But on August 27th… well, August 28th for me because it was 3am, Bacxaber, Fox and I finally completed my 50th Legend of the Veil. As soon as we did so, we raced to the nearest outpost, sold all our loot and made our way to the Pirate Legend Hideout. I immediately went to Legendary Luke, a ghost pirate who sells rare goods, and there it was, Sarwan’s hat. 68,000 gold later and the hat was finally mine.

And of course, I immediately equipped my new hat and we celebrated with a small photo shoot. I turned up my graphics and took some nice pictures of my new hat. Bacxaber was right all along, Sarwan’s hat matched my getup perfectly. In fact, it’s genuinely an awesome hat and I love it.

As for how long it took me to do 50 Legends of the Veil? I don’t really want to think about it. What I do have to consider now is what my next goal will be in Sea of Thieves. There’s a lot to do, a lot of things I still need to unlock.
