Bagon Community Day Classic

Classic Community Days are basically just a chance to get an old Community Day to come back. While everyone has been desperate for Beldum and Metagross to come back, we got Bagon and Salamence in the mean time. Bagon definitely isn’t a bad pick, it is definitely a strong dragon type, and many people have Shadow Bagons they want to evolve. I don’t, I didn’t even get a decent 2* Bagon worth evolving, but Shadow Salamence IS one of the strongest dragon types available, only really beaten by Rayquaza, its Mega and Salamence’s own Mega.

The event was mostly a repeat of the original Community Day, with all the same bonuses. Annoyingly, Mega Salamence wasn’t around in raids, I could have done with more Mega Salamence candy, and there weren’t any research tasks that gave Mega Candy either. The spawns were mostly Bagon but I did see a lot of the current event spawn Pokemon sneaking in, more so than previous Community Days. Shiny rates were all over the place as well. I caught one in the first two hours and five in the last hour.

To be honest, I was having a horrible time for most of the event. Most Bagons were taking 2-5 Pokeballs to catch, and I’ve been low on Pokeballs for a while. To the point that I held on to research that rewarded Pokeballs. Sure, the Catch 3 Bagon tasks did help a bit, but they give 5 Great Balls at most, and when it takes more than 2 to catch one Bagon, then you’re always going negative. And it’s not like I wasn’t trying. Since it was x3 catch XP, I was going for excellent throws. I’m not sure if it was just me or not, because my brother was having problems as well

I did start the day with my brother, but he had to suddenly leave at 3:30pm to go babysit for his girlfriend’s sister’s kid. So he dropped me off at town hall and I walked home, stopping by some Pokestops to get more research and put Pokemon in showcases. Most of the showcases near me were Salamence ones, meaning I couldn’t just throw in any random crap, I had to specifically evolve stuff. I did evolve an XXL Bagon, but I only found one XXL Bagon the entire day. We both Mega-Evolved a dragon type, I went with Charizard and he went with Rayquaza, but we didn’t see THAT much of an increase in XL Candy. His was a level 1, mine was nearly level 3, but the XL Candy just wasn’t there. I do genuinely wonder what the boost actually is, because my level 3 Primal Groudon didn’t really do much on Litten Day either.

Shundo Bagon

Frankly, my luck was awful… up until 4:45pm, 15 minutes before the event ended. My incense spawned a shiny 991CP Bagon which turned out to be a hundo. That’s my third ever Shundo (shiny hundo) since I started playing in 2018 and my first in 3 years.

So yeah, I evolved that thing instantly. And I JUST got enough XL Candy to be able to max it out.

Overall though, apart from the Shundo? Just another normal Community Day. One which was weirdly empty and quiet. I actually expected better turnout. Actually, I expected to see, well, like, anyone. But no, everywhere was empty. Which is weird. I thought Bagon would be way more popular.
