Bounsweet Community Day

You know what? This community day fucking sucked. Bounsweet is one of those small, annoying Pokemon with a kinda meh shiny, a fucky hitbox and no windup for its attack animation. And, for some reason, it’s getting a Community Day before something useful, like the next starter Pokemon, Popplio. This stupid little berry Pokemon apparently is getting its chance to shine in the spotlight. Why? No idea. But this Pokemon is a bastard. It’s small, hard to catch and attacks a lot.

And before you say “get good”, I want to point out that I can reliably land excellent throws on Joltik, another small, hard to hit Pokemon. But Joltik has a functional hitbox, and a windup before it attacks. And it jumps less. And, while having a much higher CP range, it’s also somehow got a better catch rate. I had 200CP Bounsweets breaking out of great throws on the regular. This is made worse by the visual updates, which have made the game more laggy for me. But I wasn’t the only person struggling to catch these bastards. I did this Community Day with my brother, and he was struggling too. And he’s the sort of player who gets excellent throws on like 80% of the Pokemon he catches.

Annoyingly, this bastard Pokemon wasn’t even weatherboosted. It’s been sunny all day here, but nope, in-game, apparently it was cloudy. Not that it mattered, Bounsweet was a pain in the ass to catch nonetheless. And its shiny is kinda meh – while its evolutions are okay, Bounsweet just has a purple leaf on it. To annoy me even more, ALL the showcases around me were for Tsareena, and I didn’t manage to catch a single XXL for my collection. Spawns weren’t even that good either. I went to the mall to play (since I met my brother there for lunch) and we were regularly running out of things to catch. We HAD to use incense to keep going.

Tsareena

And on top of all that, Bounsweet didn’t even get a good move. What on earth is Tsareena going to do with High Jump Kick, when it could have gotten its ACTUAL signature move, Trop Kick? What is Tsareena even really going to do with High Jump Kick anyway? It’s a pure grass type Pokemon, the fighting type move doesn’t really give it any coverage, except maybe against steel types. High Jump Kick would have been a far better addition for a multitude of other Pokemon during a PvP shakeup or something. Trop Kick on the other hand would have been a great fit for PvP as a utility move, since it lowers the opponent’s attack by one stage, and that would have carried over nicely into the Go Battle League. Tsareena would have also gotten STAB on it, so it’d do some damage too.

The only good bonus was the 1/4 egg hatching distance, but there’s nothing good in eggs right now. Sure, it’s a chance to get Vavroom and Charcadet slightly more quickly, but the chances of getting them is fucking tiny because there’s so much other crap in eggs. And that’s even assuming you get a 10km egg. All I’ve been getting lately are 5km eggs, and those contain nothing but trash, Lickitung and a miniscule chance at a Larvesta.

You can’t even say that “oh Tsareena is a good budget grass type for PvE” because she’s barely up there, and her Community Day move (which is when most people will evolve her) does absolutely nothing for PvE. If you want a non-fighting type with a strong fast move, then use Mewtwo with Focus Blast. As for grass types, we recently had Kartana in raids (which was duo-able), the best non-shadow grass type, and Roserade is just way better in general, while being cheaper to evolve and power up if you find a high CP Roselia.

But the thing is, we just GOT a grass type Community Day. Last month, we got Bellsprout, while being only about the same as Tsareena in PvE, at least got some good PvP stuff, giving it an alternate play style and a move it can feasibly use well. It also had better bonuses (X3 stardust) and was all-round easier to catch and more fun. Sure, Tsareena may be more popular because she’s one of those generic female-looking Pokemon, but she ain’t doing much with this Community Day move, and Bounsweet is a bastard. Plus, Bellsprout is way easier to catch.

So yeah. This community day sucked. Stupid berry bastard.
