Where are all the new enemies?

Duviri is a big place. It’s so big that new players are immediately given a Kaithe that can fly them around. In other open worlds, you either have Archwing or K-Drives, and out of them, while you do get the K-Drive in the Vox Solaris quest, you can’t fly with it. Kaithes will fly almost straight away, and doing so is good. Duviri though is also kinda empty, with a lot of gaps between islands. So you’d think that we’d fill these big areas with plenty of baddies, right?

Well, uh, not really.

Seems that there’s not really many enemies on Duviri. If anything, most of the time, it’s pretty damn peaceful, even when the Child King is angry. There are various patrols of bad guys, but there is also a lot of peace in the areas with NPCs in them. Outside of the habitable areas, you get patrols but they’re all basically the same enemies.

The new enemies in Duviri consist of three types of Dax soldiers, a large snake and some dark little critters. There’s the normal sword Dax, the archer Dax and a giant Dax that is slow and hits hard. Most of the time, you see them in groups of three to five, with most of them being normal sword Dax. The archer Dax hold off in the background, while the giant Dax lumbers towards you. All of them can be pretty easy to kill. The melee Dax in particular, you can just shoot them as they run towards you. They do come in some different colours, but you hardly notice once you have enough decrees.

There are also some small, smoky and black beings called Litmus, but these are just like the dark, spooky enemies you fight (or run away from) in Chains of Harrow. We do have some sort of connection here, but these enemies are pretty small and rarely seen. Plus they die very quickly.

The Orowyrm, one of the few new enemies in Duviri
The Orowyrm, one of the few new enemies in Duviri

We also have the Orowyrm, the massive flying serpent. This boss enemy is only fight-able at the end of a Duviri bounty. You can’t fight it whenever you want, you have to do all the steps in the bounty first. That includes two Undercroft sections with a Warframe. So it’s a bit of a trot, especially if your party wants to wander around and explore. It would be nice if we could activate the Orowyrm whenever, but oh well. It’s the fifth new enemy in Duviri.

Now, Fortuna also has a problem with having tons of open space and not much in it. But at least the Orb Vallis has a myriad of new enemies to deal with. Not only do you have two boss fights, but we’ve also got bigger and tougher enemies that spawn, the more trouble you cause. You have an entire faction to fight against, including things like Raptors and Jackals, that you don’t see in normal Corpus ships. Duviri on the other hand only ever has five enemies, four of which also spawn in the Undercroft. I’m including the Orowyrm here because it IS a Duviri enemy. Sure, we also have the Thrax enemies, but these are not new, they first appeared in Angels of the Zariman.

But not even the Undercroft really has anything new. Aside from Dax and Thrax, the majority of these enemies are your standard Corrupted Grineer, Corpus and Infested.

The enemies are well-done, I guess, but I don’t know, I’d like more variation. Surely the Child King can be more imaginative and conjure up some more threats, right?
