The Power of Sloops

When you are off sailing in the Sea of Thieves, what would you think is the best ship to use? Surely the galleon, with its impressive size and cannons, right? Or what about the brig, with its sleeker body and less levels to repair? Nope, not at all. The best ship in the Sea of Thieves is the humble sloop. By quite a lot. But why is the sloop so powerful? Oh, there are many reasons. Some of which are quite surprising. Speed and movement are everything Sloops are small ships, but they can really travel. Their smaller, sleeker bodies… [Continue Reading]

The LOOP: a loopy board game through time

The LOOP is a board game released in 2020 and only recently bought to my boyfriend, as part of his board game collection. As neither of us had played the game before, we decided to give the game a try. The LOOP’s premise is simple. A meanie called Dr. Faux has made a time machine and is planning on using it to become the master of the universe, but in doing so, is somewhat destroying the universe in the process. Of course, we have to stop him and his army of clones, before space-time collapses on us. The game is… [Continue Reading]

Loading Screen Tips for Pokemon GO

When you load up Pokemon GO, as you watch the loading bar slowly creep across, there’s always a tip, a little “did you know” sort of thing with some useful advice. There are only a handful, and while they are quite useful, there could definitely be more tips. So I’m going to give Niantic a hand and list out some other little tips. Maybe they can put these on the login screen too. Here’s a bunch of random tips that hopefully make the game easier for you. Not in any particular order though. Pokemon turn to face you when you… [Continue Reading]

Pokemon You Should Use Elite TMs on

Elite TMs are rare items in Pokemon GO which allow you to get moves that are otherwise unavailable. The only way to get them is by reaching level 20 in the GBL, or in timed research. Most of the time, you see them in the 12000 coins box in the shop on a Community Day. Getting a good number of TMs isn’t particularly easy, and require a lot of your time. Because of this, actually using an Elite TM is actually a pretty difficult choice. So here are some major options for when it comes to using Elite TMs. Mewtwo… [Continue Reading]

In Which aabicus Writes Articles

While it’s mainly me who manages the Daily SPUF these days, we can’t forget about the genius who originally came up with the Daily SPUF. The idea was simple. Instead of complaining in various forums and being off-topic, people from the old Steam Powered User Forums could instead write their articles here, whether they were off-topic or not. Thanks to aabicus’s early dedication, lots of people posted articles, and we would probably not be here if aabicus hadn’t worked hard on the site. Even when I took over as chief editor and webmaster for the Daily SPUF, aabicus has been… [Continue Reading]

How to Not Join an Alliance in the Sea of Thieves

An alliance in the Sea of Thieves can be both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes, you can get super lucky with everyone getting along and getting a share of all the money. Other times, one ship does all the work and the others just plod along in the background. Sometimes an alliance can fall apart due to arguments or friendly fire. But having an alliance can offer a tiny bit of safety. After all, there is safety in numbers. This article goes completely against what I just said. This is is how NOT to join an alliance. Ignore people… [Continue Reading]

My Thoughts on Cosmetic Shops in non F2P games

These days, cosmetic shops in our video games is kinda common. Generally, a game will have some sort of shop where you can buy items for real world money, or some currency you buy with real money. And there’s often a season pass as well, that gives you cosmetics too. However, are these cosmetic shops a good thing or a bad thing? In multiplayer games, cosmetics can go a long way After all, everyone wants to look unique. Allowing people to customize their characters and all that is big business, and people are also willing to spend money to look… [Continue Reading]

On Very Suddenly Not Liking Animal Crossing

A while back, I was considering doing another Let’s Play for something on the Switch. After all, I enjoyed playing Pokemon Shield, I enjoyed writing about it and I wanted to try and replicate that joy. However, at the time, nothing really sprang to mind. There’s too many games to play, and my Steam library is bloated beyond belief. But what I really wanted to do was play a game on the Switch, while also writing notes right here on the Daily SPUF’s backend. Small problem, I only actually own one other Switch game. And that game is Animal Crossing… [Continue Reading]

Warframe Now Has Crossplay!

You heard that, Warframe now has Crossplay across their four platforms. People on PC, Playstation, Xbox AND Switch can all play Warframe together! While there were early tests with PC and Xbox originally, with the Lua’s Prey update, Playstation and the Nintendo Switch have joined the fold, and now we’re all one big, happy family. What amazes me is how well it all came together. Discussions about Crossplay were always rather unwilling to have any time frames, but suddenly, it all just seemed to work. In the chat channels, people could be seen talking all in one channel, having full… [Continue Reading]

A Pirate Game With Not Many Pirate Clothes

There’s something odd about Sea of Thieves and its cosmetics. A huge part of the game is to go on adventures and quests, getting rich and doing pirate-y things. All of this gets you plenty of gold, which you can then spend on cosmetics. And, bloody hell, there are a LOT of cosmetics. Not just clothing, there are skins and sets for all your tools, weapons and companions as well. But we are lacking in normal pirate gear. You know, the striped shirts, the bandanas, the more basic clothes. What you’d see in kids TV shows. There are some pieces… [Continue Reading]
