Junglers in MOBAs seems like the most depressing role in a game ever

Every multiplayer game generally tends to split players into different roles. MMOs are best known for splitting into DPS, Tank and healer roles. In MOBAs, the roles are often caked directly into the game, with very little overlap. You pick an ADC, you play as an ADC, for example. However, there’s one particular role that has always confused me: the humble Jungler. A quick preamble though. Before I start talking about this role, I have to point out that I’m not very good at MOBAs. Nor do I really play them any more. Despite the fact I’ve fumbled around in… [Continue Reading]

Timed Research Needs Better Rewards

We’ve had a lot of events lately, pretty much one after the other. As of writing, we are in a Luminous Legends event. There was one for Xerneas and one for Yveltal. Both these events and the ones before them came with timed research. This research worked the same way as special research except it’s, well, timed. But despite the rush to complete them, the rewards are always… kinda lame. Let’s look at the Luminous Legends X event as an example. The only good rewards were at the end. Luminous Legends X was a longer event than normal. It ran… [Continue Reading]

On The Difficulties of Learning to Cook

I don’t have many strict opinions. In fact, I’m often willing to change my mind if I’m wrong, and have done on some major issues. But one of the few stances I remain strong on is that everyone should know how to cook some basic meals. Sounds simple enough, but, well nothing is ever truly simple. Turns out, like everything else, there’s some difficulties to overcome when it comes to learning to cook. “But Medic, we have the internet for learning everything!” Yes, we do, but not everything on the internet is accurate or true. Sure, someone posted their recipe… [Continue Reading]

On Playing Pokemon GO as a Free To Play Player

I won’t deny it, I’ve spent money on Pokemon GO. Not much though. For the perhaps thousands of hours of enjoyment, I’ve not spent much at all. I’ve purchased a handful of event tickets and the rare €5 coin bundle. But most of the time, I just use what I have, and if I run out, that’s it. However, I may have mentioned that I started a new account. That account is completely free to play. And mostly separate from what I normally do. It mostly just does community days, raids and the odd event if I can be bothered.… [Continue Reading]

On Boiling Eggs

Eggs are great. Round, reliable and full of protein. Probably not the best choice for a vegetarian or a vegan. But you can do a huge amount with just eggs. Heck, the weirdly beloved deviled egg is basically a hard-boiled egg. You just scoop the insides out, mush it up with spices then put it back on top. Yet somehow, the process of boiling eggs is oddly… annoying. Somehow, something so simple can also be weirdly difficult. Also, boiling eggs always reminds me of a scene from Look Around You, a fake science show. Boiling eggs are tasty though. The… [Continue Reading]

A Ramble About the Snyder Cut

I finally got around to watching the Snyder cut of Justice League. You see, I like super hero movies. But DC’s live action movies haven’t really been pulling their weight. The biggest mess was around the Justice League movie, which was filmed mostly by one person then put together by another person. It was all a horrible corporate-meddling mess. One that left us with a shitty Justice League movie that made even the worse animated movies flinch. Now we have Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Which is a 4 hour movie as Zack Snyder, the original director, imagined it. Normally ‘uncut’… [Continue Reading]

A Ramble About Adobe CC

The other day, on a whim, I decided to try out Adobe Creative Cloud. For a while now, all of Adobe’s products have been subscription-based, with a lot of cloud stuff going on. The idea is that it’s all online and you can access it anywhere. Also allows Adobe to offer advice every five seconds. I’ve considered trying out Adobe CC for a while, but I never got around to testing the free trial. So, uh, I tried the free trial. And I wasn’t impressed. First things first, the trial requires a card. You can’t get the free trial unless… [Continue Reading]

How I would have done a Sustainability Event in Pokemon GO

A couple of weeks ago, we had a Sustainability event in Pokemon GO. As part of a sustainability campaign by Niantic, all its games are getting events. Mostly to raise awareness, I think. Now, I don’t play Wizards Unite or Ingress Prime, but I do play Pokemon GO. And I can tell you this: the event was kinda boring. And it didn’t really raise awareness. But it’s not hard to have made this event more interesting. So here’s how we’ll do it. First off, a summary of the actual Sustainability Week. There wasn’t much to it. Some Pokemon in raids.… [Continue Reading]

My Problem With Mastery Locks on Weapons

The other day, I mentioned a low MR Volt, who had just begun his adventure. As we played with him, he asked a lot of questions. His biggest one was “where can I find a good AOE weapon for my MR?” That’s a genuinely great question, because Warframe has a LOT of enemies and you need a lot of them killed. Back then, at MR4, the only weapon we could really recommend was the Hek, since most explosive weapons unlock at MR5 or higher. Eventually, we gave the guy some suggestions, as well as a lot of probably unnecessary help.… [Continue Reading]

A Ramble on Baking Cakes

I love baking cakes. Something about baking cakes kinda reminds me of, well, science. Not actual, proper science. While yes, there is chemistry involved in baking a cake, it’s not sciency. Sure, I’m taking things and mixing them together, but I’m not really aware of all the chemical reactions going on. Aside from maybe the baking powder reacting and forming pockets of air as it does so. No, baking reminds me of the sort of silly science you’d do as a kid. Just mixing stuff together to see what works. Basically doing my own little experiments. Now, when it comes… [Continue Reading]
