How to deal with stupid Medics

Ignoring everyone but that same damned Heavy.
Ignoring everyone but that same damned Heavy.

You’ve had the same nightmare Medics, haven’t you? You’ve seen them. You must have seen them. Everyone’s seen them, whether they’ve been fighting people of the opposite colour, fighting hordes of robots or fighting a single, over-powered boss with thousands of hit points.

You know what they’re like. All they do is heal one person, generally a Heavy. They refuse to spread heals around and take forever to deploy a single Uber, which they drop most of the time. If they’re not healing their Heavy friend, they turn into a Battle Medic and try to syringe things before rejoining their friend in the Spawn Room. They’re just horrible. They’re almost a disgrace to Medics everywhere. Almost.

The thing is, what can you do? I’ve been trying to work out how to deal with them and I’ve come up with several options:

Ignore them and go elsewhere.
Yes, leaving the server is always an option, and sometimes it’s the best one. Leaving a server leaves all that stress behind as well. Great for you, you don’t need to put up with a moronic fellow Medic. Bad for the guys you’ve left behind and the same moronic Medic. The guys you left behind now won’t get proper heals and that Medic won’t learn.
Scream at them.
Grab your microphone and shout at the stupid Medic to pay attention and stop healing that damned Heavy. There’s an entire team that needs healing and it doesn’t matter if that Heavy falls below 400 health. Screaming is also known to help with stress levels. So you feel better, but your team mates will start to dislike you. Downside to this is that the Medic and the rest of your team will probably just mute you and ignore you.

Explain to the Medic what they are doing wrong and how they can improve.
A tip for the more patient player, sometimes explaining why their entire team hates them is a good way to make a Medic improve. The basics of playing Medic are rather easy to explain over chat, whether it’s via chat or your microphone. A new player may actually stop, listen and improve. But chances are, they won’t do anything to change. Your team will have more respect for you though.

Continue playing.
Worst case scenario, just keep on playing and hope for the best. Unless they’re Battle Medicing 24/7, at least you’ve got one person who has overheal. Better than none at all. Why not switch to Medic yourself and show them up? And don’t forget, leaving is always an option. If you’re getting really annoyed though, maybe it’s best just to turn TF2 off.

The thing is, if someone refuses to listen, what can you do?

Medic

Medic, also known as Phovos (or occasionally Dr Retvik Von Scribblesalot), writes 50% of all the articles on the Daily SPUF since she doesn't have anything better to do. A dedicated Medic main in Team Fortress 2 and an avid speedster in Warframe, Phovos has the unique skill of writing 500 words about very little in a very short space of time.

Option 4: Go Heavy yourself. This works greatly in my favour because my only unusual is for Heavy, and I should think a storm cloud hovering over my disastrous awesome toupée will attract any Medic’s attention.
