The Adventures of Volt and Smaller Volt

“Hey, space mum!”

Volt rolled his neural sensors as he received another message from an Excalibur he had recently taken under his wing. Unlike the first Excalibur, who seemed to know what he was doing and just lacked the firepower, this Excalibur was filled with questions. Questions and annoying nicknames for Volt.

“Please don’t call me that…” Volt sighed, before perking up. “How you doing?”

“I’m doing great!” the fresh, young Tenno messaged back. “I just finished an exterminate mission and now I’m going to do a sabotage mission on Mercury!”

“You need help?” Volt asked.

“Uh, no, but I want company!”

Volt shrugged, grabbed his gear then waited for the invite from his little friend. Once it arrived, Volt jumped into his landing craft and headed towards the coordinates he had sent. As Volt touched down inside the Grineer Galleon, he noticed something was up. Instead of an Excalibur, there was a black and purple Volt standing in front of him.

“Oh, you got yourself a new Warframe!” Volt beamed, eyeing the smaller Volt up and down. “And a cape! You… you spent a lot of money on that look, didn’t you?”

The smaller Volt nodded. “I did! I wanted to be a true ninja! A true ELECTRIC ninja!”

“That’s fine and all, but what am I going to call you now? Because us both being called Volt is going to be… problematic for the writer of this story.”

The smaller Volt, the ‘Smolt’, shrugged, checking over his weapon, a Boltor with a metallic purple trim. “They’ll work it out. Anyway, about this reactor! We gotta blow it up, I guess?”

“Yep. You want to lead the way?”

Smolt nodded, used his little burst of speed then sprinted off. Volt made a quick mental note to remind him to teach Smolt how to bullet-jump later on, then chased off after him.

Before long, the two Volts had reached the ship’s reactor. Three paths were ahead of them – two which lead to the various cooling stations and one which was locked and led to another part of the galleon. There were a few Grineer wandering about, but a couple of quick, quiet shots with Volt’s silenced sniper rif-

“DIE, GRINEER SCUM!” Smolt screeched as he leaped towards the Grineer, smashing them with his brand new Jat Kittag, a rocket-powered hammer. He continued to smash everything in site, only stopping when he had run out of enemies to smash. Once his rampage was over, Smolt glanced back at Volt, who had holstered his sniper rifle. “Was that too much?”

“Not at all,” Volt shrugged. “You go up ahead and get that coolant, I’ll steal the coolant to the left.”

Smolt jumped up and down in glee, and with another little burst of speed, raced off down the corridor. Volt tutted to himself and headed down to the left, bullet-jumping over a large pool of electrified water, through some vents and into the coolant room, all the while wondering how the Grineer changed these coolant cells. Just as he removed the coolant, he heard a small explosion, followed by a small “oops.”

“Uh, I broke it.”

“Don’t worry about it!” Volt replied over his comms. “Get back to the main room.”

In the centre of the reactor room though, Smolt was nowhere to be found. He was in fact back in the coolant room, messing around with a fuel cell.

“I can’t get it in.”

Volt rushed over to see what Smolt was doing. He was trying to put the fuel cell in where the coolant cell was supposed to go, but the hole was blocked by the debris of the coolant cell he had accidentally blown up.

“Yeah, I gathered…” Volt tutted.

Smolt turned to Volt, not sure what to do, before spotting the coolant cell he was holding.

“Can… Can I stick the coolant in the fuel drive?”

Volt shrugged. “Sure. Why not?”

Smolt smiled as he rushed off, snatching the coolant cell from Volt and immediately ramming it into the fuel drive. He then immediately restarted the reactor, then gleefully placed a bunch of shields to briefly protect the coolant pipes. Volt assisted by placing some more electric shields, while Smolt went back to smashing Grineer soldiers with his hammer, as they had been alerted by their sabotage efforts.

After a brief wait, the reactor exploded in a plume of ice, filling the rest of the ship with ice as well. Pleased with his work, Smolt made his way to extraction, with Volt following him and covering his rear.

“That was so much fun!” Smolt bounced with glee as the two Tenno extracted. “But really though, we can be such baddies…”

Volt shrugged. “Nah, they deserved it. Shame there’s about seven million more of these ships though…”

Smolt sighed. But his eyes suddenly lit up. “Can we… can we do that again?”

“Sure.”

“Yay!”
