Legendary Pokemon You’ll Probably Only Need One of in Pokemon GO

Generally, when you catch a Legendary Pokemon, it’s pretty cool. In the main series games in particular, it’s part of the story. You tend to only get one of them in a single play-through, and they’re generally of great importance. If you wanted a shiny Pokemon, you’d have to reset the game countless times for a tiny, tiny chance. And that only applied to earlier games – newer ones are relegated to events.

However, in Pokemon GO, it’s possible to get many, many of the same type of Legendary. Raids regularly cycle through Pokemon, and even with just free passes, you can collect a lot of Legendaries.

Regigigas

Regigigas is a gigantic monster. A colossal titan. It’s the master of three other colossal titans that represent ice, rock and steel. However Regigigas is a normal type Pokemon. This means that, despite its great stats, it’s never going to do Super Effective damage. And, at the same time, many of Regigigas’s moves… aren’t that great anyway.

I suppose at least it doesn’t have Slow Start, the awfully lame ability from the main series games. Having your attack and speed halved for five turns is painful. Especially since that debuff resets if you swap Regiggas out for another Pokemon.

Celebi

I dunno, maybe I’m just biased. But I’ve never felt like I needed more than one Celebi. Okay, sure, I have two Celebis. I have a normal one and a shiny one. But I’ve kinda never felt that Celebi does much aside from being a handy plot device. Somehow, amazingly, a Pokemon with the ability to move through time just feels… kinda useless.

Celebi is more a Pokemon for the anime than it is useful as a fighting Pokemon.

The Genie Trio

Well, more specifically, the three Genies in their Incarnate forms. The Therian forms of Landorus, Tornadus and Thundurus are all superior to the genie forms. They just have all-round better stats. The only real reason to get Incarnate Genies is because they have shinies. But in Tornadus’s case, his shiny is barely noticeable!

However, despite their power in the main games, here in Pokemon GO, their power is still kinda muted. In the main games, where Pokemon have more moves and less risk of swapping Pokemon, the very few weaknesses Landorus and Thundurus have work well. Here in Pokemon GO, in raids, they just get pummeled by Ice types. And in PvP, their moves don’t hold much water. I suppose at least when used against bosses they are strong against, they do well. But Landorus is actually at a disadvantage since he’s weaker to electric than most other ground types.

Any Psychic Type that isn’t Mewtwo

Psychic types have it rough. Mewtwo is simply such a good psychic type that it blows everything else out of the water. Pretty much nothing can compete with how strong Mewtwo is. In fact, Mewtwo is so strong that Shadow Mewtwo is one of the best attackers in the game for anything that doesn’t directly resist it.

But Mewtwo is also kinda… more accessible as well. It gets released just as much as Pokemon like Latios and Latias and just overall has better moves. Mewtwo has been released more in events and the like and was also available in Shadow Form while others like the Lake Spirits are insanely sporadic in raid appearances. So, really, getting a Mewtwo is better AND easier.

However, there are two Pokemon you could argue are still good Psychic types. Lugia is a massive, bulky monster. But its damage is lacking, and its special move is a flying-type move. At the same time, Defense Form Deoxys is a similarly bulky monster. More importantly though, its stats are much better suited to PvP, and Deoxys has a wide moveset that allows it to shine. At least in Great League.

Of course, we’ll all generally tend to get more than one of these Legendary (or Mythical) Pokemon. The reason why is obvious. Pokemon GO is actually one of the easier ways of getting a legitimate Legendary, particularly shiny ones. And now we have the ability to transfer Pokemon to Home, these Pokemon will travel further than ever.
