Thoughts About the Beyond Light campaign – 1

I know, I’m pretty damn late to the party here. Especially since the Witch Queen will come out in February 2022. I’ve never really been that fond of Destiny 2’s campaign quests and I’m not really sure why.

But after spending ages just leveling stuff up, I decided I wanted to try Stasis. After all, it’s a whole new type of magical element, a complete fourth class. However, Stasis is… well, kinda evil. It’s literally an element of the Darkness, you know, the big bad black triangles that have been threatening us for like a year though.

It was about time that I started on the actual Beyond Light quest.

“I know, let’s touch the big evil triangle”

The plot so far is kinda simple. You basically go back and forth with an Eliksni/Fallen called Variks, who has run away from a new Kell (leader) that is planning to put Stasis on an entire army. When we discover for ourselves that Stasis is 1. real and 2. bad, we basically get the fuck out of there. I mean, of course you would. We basically walked into a whole fucking army.

But what I find strange is that, well, when a big black triangle appears, and our Ghost starts talking as if we’re possessed. And for some reason, we go and touch the big black triangle. Okay, sure, this black pyramid is giving me a taste of the new Stasis class, but we rather nonchalantly touch what is the antithesis of everything we stand for.

There’s also a handful of people helping us in this quest. A small campsite on a large, flat, open plain. But honestly, we’re mostly just here on our own.

Warframe vibes, just being told what to do.

The quest really does play out similarly to Waframe quests. A lot of talking heads while we do all the work. I do find this a little bit weird though, because we know that Guardians can talk. I do like how, after a long monologue with someone, we get an abbreviated written version as well before we go on our way again. But I’d like to see, well, something, I guess. Doesn’t have to be a lot.

It also follows the same trend of just assuming you are one person. But eh, that’s fine. It’s clear that there are hundreds of Guardians around, so you being the chosen one can quite easily be hand-waved away.

All that being said though, I don’t want to make too many comparisons between Destiny and Warframe. There are some things that are similar (e.g. Ghosts and Ordis), but it’s just surface-level stuff.

Haven’t died that much

The one thing I’ve noticed though is that I’m not dying that much. I don’t think I’ll be setting any speed run times, but I’ve been doing well keeping up with so many Fallen. The things that seem to get me are the exploding shanks, some of which have spawned right behind me. Overall though, I’m managing to keep up. It’s also some good practice as well, which is why I’m using anything-but-auto-rifles. My aim sucks but at least I can try to be better.

Then again, the enemies are slightly lower level than the ones I’ve been fighting recently. Maybe they are lowered intentionally, since the quest is meant to be played solo.

A lot more to come, I assume

I’ve only just started Beyond Light, so I am curious about what comes next. After all, we are literally playing with powers from the complete opposite of the Traveler.

Either way, I’m pretty sure that Zavala is going to be super pissed off at me…
