A Volt Deluxe Skin! Yay!

It finally happened! After all these years! My beloved Volt has received a deluxe skin that actually looks like a deluxe skin! Alongside the New War update, we got two new deluxe skins, for Volt and Mesa. The theme for them both is Sentient in design, and they represent how the Warframes would look like, if Sentients had made them. Kinda like failed experiments on the path to creating Caliban, the actually Sentient Warframe.

For both Warframes, this is actually a second deluxe skin for them. They both already have deluxe skins, but the first deluxe skins didn’t sit well with me. Proto Volt in particular didn’t really sit well with me, so it’s nice to finally have a non-Tennogen upgrade. Now Volt has the Electralyst skin, which is a Sentient re-imagining of the electric Warframe.

Very Electric

Very, very electric. Volt’s Electralyst skin definitely makes Volt look like a master of electricity. There’s electricity flowing across his whole body, up his arms and his torso. Combined with my normal Vengeful Charge Ephemera, it’s actually almost a little too much electricity. The skin is actually very busy, and Vengeful Charge knocks it off the edge. A more subtle Ephemera would work better here.

It’s still Volt

What’s nicer about all of this though is a happy balance between Volt-like and any-other-frame-like. You can clearly see that the skin is for Volt. The whole skin has Volt’s basic shape, including both his large codpiece and, surprisingly, Volt’s butt-cape. However, the Sentient Volt skin also makes Volt look, well, bigger. He has much broader shoulders and seems more masculine. Actually, if anything, this skin really does look like Volt has been going to the gym. He is much more muscular than a standard Volt.

That being said, I’m pretty sure that, if Revenant hadn’t just had a new skin, the Electralyst deluxe skin would work perfectly on Revenant as well as Volt.

There is a small downside though. Because of how busy this skin is, it means that finding a good look is a tad tricky. Shoulder and chest armour in particular. Any larger chest piece will happy cover up the cool, electric flow running through Volt’s abdomen, which is a shame because the hole in him makes Volt fit the Sentient theme better. Leg armour seems to fit quite nicely, but it’s very hit or miss when it comes to shoulder armour. A lot of the popular ones sit in funny places. Some parts will sit in the gap where Volt’s rings normally are, but others will appear on top of Volt’s new, better-armoured shoulders.

I’m honestly just pleased to have a skin.

Really, at the end of the day, if this skin had ended up looking bad? I’d buy it anyway. This isn’t quite the deluxe skin that I wanted, but it’s both a cool skin and for my favourite Warframe. And for only 260 platinum, I got myself not just one skin for Volt, but a skin for Mesa as well.

Overall, I rate Volt’s new skin at a 8/10. I love the sentient theme, but with so many metallic colours, it’s difficult to find a good balance between no metallics and lots of metallics. But this is definitely a skin I’ll be using on the regular, whenever I want to look fancy as fuck.

Oh, and the Mesa skin is pretty cool too. Looks rather Eidolon-y. That’s about it though.
