A Good Launch for a New War

Alright, folks, today’s article is a little bit weird. While I will be discussing more about the New War’s contents in other articles, I actually have something very specific in mind. Today, I want to talk about how relatively good the launch was for New War. It’s actually quite interesting to me.

Editor’s note: Before we start, this is just one experience. Other players may experience things differently.

Weirdly Smooth

For me, personally, the whole launch was weirdly smooth. While my launcher did get stuck at 99% for a bit, that was honestly the only hitch I had in a while. I didn’t have game crashes or anything like that, I did have some FPS drops. Most notably when you run into the Sentient eyes on the walls that explode when you run by. Overall though, for me, for launch? Pretty smooth.

Other players though weren’t as lucky. About 2 hours into the quest, Red Text popped up and announced a hotfix to resolve some nastier bugs. Apparently there were ways to soft-lock the game, and no one wants that. On the plus side, Red Text was also adamant about not spoiling the quest, and people in chat felt the same way. There was actually a huge amount of not-spoilers going on.

5GB downloading at a good speed

It’s also one of the fastest downloads I’ve seen in ages. I assume that the devs throttle the download speed when they have events, but they didn’t seem to do that this time. With uncapped download speeds, people were getting into the game very quickly… Unless they decided to optimize the game cache. That would take hours on a good day, let alone on the release of a new quest.

But yeah, getting back into Warframe was pretty easy. The non-throttled download speeds were so good that even I on my mediocre internet plan got in nice and quickly.

The un-throttled speeds also made it much easier to keep Fortuna 69 safe, as players could more quickly jump into Fortuna 69, making sure that someone was in the relay while everyone else updated.

It was genuinely on pretty much PC and all consoles at once.

After I had finished both downloading and playing the new quest, out of sheer curiosity, I opened up my Switch Lite and decided to download the update there. And, funnily enough, there the New War was, busy being downloaded. I didn’t actually play the quest on the Switch, my account there is still insanely low.

But yeah, as promised, all versions of Warframe got the New War at the same time. That’s genuinely a good thing. For other massive updates, we always had to sweat an oath that we wouldn’t spoil surprises while console players lagged behind. So now, when there’s a spoiler, it’s a spoiler for all of Warframe’s platforms.

Mostly visual glitches

The glitches that I did see though were mostly visual or cosmetic. Something was off with the way some NPCs spoke, as if their lines weren’t synced up properly. Most glitches that I experienced though were occasionally flickering textures and level of detail stuff, cosmetic things that.

The best glitch I saw though? For some reason, after the meetup, something weird happens to my Tenno’s appearance. My character’s black lipstick seemed to have moved…

Yep, for a little bit, apparently my Tenno turned into a real monster. Thankfully, the glitch quickly went away…
