Good Riddance, 2021!

Today is New Year’s Eve, and I’m feeling rather nostalgic. We had a great Christmas and everything went very well. Since it’s the end of the year, I feel like it’s time for… well, not a recap, but a ramble through 2021. A year that somehow breezed past.

Seriously, this year felt short. Things happened but everything just feels… mangled up, I guess?

A transformative year.

For me personally, this year has been all over the damn place. Spent a good chunk of the year feeling depressed and anxious, but now I am actually trying to fix stuff. The angry voices in my head are pretty much gone and I have re-learned how to like myself. That last one is pretty tricky, because it’s hard to pick yourself up if you feel like you don’t deserve to be picked up.

Because of it though (and some darker thoughts that I won’t mention here), I’ve been in and out with doctors appointments, balancing medication and psychology sessions until we find a sweet spot. I do feel like I’m getting there, but it’s all still been kinda rough.

Now though, I at least have some optimism. It’s not all grey skies and depression any more. I do seem like a better person all-round.

Still a bit shitty.

2021 though wasn’t amazing. But it also wasn’t completely awful either. If anything, 2021 was a dull blur of a year. Things happened and they all just merged into a continuous string of the “meh” feeling. Nothing stood out in particular, and things that did stand out were very brief and ended up melting back into the dull, deep river of time and space.

And to make matters worse, we’re just getting more and more COVID variants. Any hope that COVID will go away quickly is gone now, especially with more infectious variants. At best, we might be able to deal with COVID the way we do with Influenza, with booster shots every few years, but still, things seem to be bleak. In the mean time, keep on washing your hands and wearing a mask, because, well, no one wants to get ill.

At least we have games.

On the flip side, gaming has been pretty darn good. Or, at least, the games I played. We finally got a few cool reveals. Destiny 2 is hyping up their Witch Queen antics and a massive DLC in February 2022, and Warframe finally got its long-awaited New War quest. In fact, a lot of games seem to be coming out next year, and it’s interesting what games will make it though in one piece. We’ve got big names as well, like Elden Ring and some new Pokemon stuff as well. And fingers crossed, we’ll have a new Saints Row game too. Either way, a nice chunk of 2022 will consist of new games.

I hope 2022 will be better.

I’m not going to get my hopes up too high, but I have a feeling that 2022 will at least try to be better. It’s already going to start off well for me, as I have some things planned. But in general, fingers crossed that 2022 will go smoothly. Or just… not shit. I’m find with a boring year that doesn’t have too many fuck ups.

Anyway, happy new year, everyone. I hope you all have a better year than you expect. Because we all deserve to be a bit happier.
