Wow, 9 Years of Warframe

This month, Warframe is celebrating 9 years of existence. Nine entire years of ninjas and updates, nine years of change and adaptation. The Warframe of today is nothing like the dark, eerily silent, almost stealth-like gameplay that Warframe started as. And throughout those 9 years, we’ve done everything. Not just fighting, shooting and brawling either. Warframe has dipped its toes into fishing, conservation, quests with powerful themes, customized weapons and companions, making music and so much more. And it’s not just Warframes either. The Tenno have found and salvaged all sorts of technology, including Archwing, K-Drive, Necramechs and Railjacks.

Oh, and us Tenno have murdered a fuckton of enemies.

Celebrating 9 years with a Wisp Dex skin

This anniversary, by simply logging into Warframe, you are given a reward to celebrate Warframe’s 9th birthday. The Wisp Dex is a really nice skin for an insanely popular Warframe. Standing next to Dex Excalibur and Dex Rhino, she really looks the part. And, best of all, the Dex Wisp screen is given away completely for free. The gift will appear in your inbox, alongside a rather touching message from the Lotus, simply thanking us for being here.

However, I kinda wish Mag got the Dex skin rather than Wisp though. Or Nova. Maybe Saryn. I never really considered Wisp as a poster child of Warframe, the same way Excalibur and Rhino are. Both Mag and Nova have been around for years, Mag in particular being around as long as Excalibur has. Still, Wisp is a super popular Warframe, so giving her a Dex skin is always a good idea.

Would have been nice to have a Volt Dex skin too, but he recently got an actual deluxe skin, so I can’t complain.

All the other Dex stuff is back!

Okay, maybe not all at the same time, but all the other Dex items we’ve had over the years are re-obtainable. Every previous Dex item will be available for the next few weeks. This week’s giveaways are the Dex Sybaris and the Dex syandana. Next week, we’ll get the Dex Furis and the week after that, the Dex Dakra, alongside previous cosmetics like the Dex Excalibur and Rhino skins. Each week also has a bonus affinity or credit booster, so even if you already have all the Dex stuff, there’s still a reason to log in.

Oh and we have an exclusive pin as well. True Master players can order a real life gold pin to show off. It’s a nice one, but they are limited to one per account. Normally I don’t purchase merchandise at all, but I do very much want this one. So I went and bought it. Because I am a True Master.

What about the future?

Despite all the celebration, there are also a lot of unknowns. The future is wobbly and anything could happen. And with the return of Lotus, either as Natah or Margulis, we also have a lot of mess to clean up. Sentients are still roaming around, dead Murex float around planets like rubble. And something strange is hiding just around the corner, with the Man in the Wall becoming ever more interested in us.

And of course, there is one other question. The question is, what will Digital Extremes do for their big tenth birthday? Who knows.
