My Three Favourite Starter Pokemon

In every Pokemon game you play, you start off with, well, a Starter Pokemon to take with you and train with. In Pokemon GO, your starter Pokemon is very basic, with a static 10/10/10 IVs and at CP10. Normally those are quickly abandoned, due to being mostly useless and cosmetic. The main series games though, your starter Pokemon is normally your best buddy forever and ever, growing alongside you.

Anyway, if I were forced to pick a starter for myself, it’d be one of these lot.

#4 Charmander

As much as I want to like Squirtle and Bulbasaur more, Charmander resonates with me. I’ve always liked Fire type Pokemon over other types. After all, two of my favourite Pokemon are Ponyta and Houndour. Charmander is no different. It’s a cute little Fire type that evolves into something cool. What’s also nice is that Charmeleon doesn’t look too derpy or weird, compared to most other starters’ first evolutions.

And while the turtle with cannons on its shoulders and the massive tank and flower lizard are both very cool, Charmander evolves into something that really looks like a dragon but isn’t a dragon for legal reasons. At least, finally, there’s a fire/dragon mega evolution for Charizard. But while Charizard got two mega forms, its fellow starters only got one each.

Frankly, Charizard gets very spoiled by the Pokemon Company.

#258 Mudkip

Mudkip is so cute. While it’s not as cute as the little prototype Wooper, it’s still an amazingly cute Pokemon that I’d love to play with. So soft and small and squishy. It also has an amazing bright pink shiny. Unfortunately, Mudkip’s first evolution, Marshstomp, is terrifying, to the point that I don’t want to have a picture of it. But Swampert quickly brings back the cool factor as a final evolution. Actually, Swampert is kinda a terrifying monster. Water and Ground are both pretty good types. Sure, having a double weakness to Grass might be a bit scary, but the extra ground typing removes Water’s other weakness, Electric.

Swampert’s mega evolution is cool as well. Beefed up to the max.

#495 Snivy

I used to have a dislike for Snivy. At first glance, Snivy looks like a right bitch, someone who looks down on you all the time. However, partially because of a friend and partially because its fellow starters are far less cool, I’ve gone to like Snivy over the years. It’s a cute little leafy Pokemon. Yes, it is a smug little prick, but at least it’s a different type of personality. Tepig looks like it’d be overly friendly, and Oshawott just looks sad all the time.

I also really like Serperior. It’s a massive grass snake, what’s not to like? People do claim that the loss of normal hands and feet are a bit of a let down for Snivy overall, but I think it’s pretty unique. At the very least, it’s better than all the damn Fire/Fighting types.

If I could choose any Pokemon to be my starter though, there are plenty of other Pokemon. Houndour would probably be my main choice. Bit if I could have literally anything as a partner? It’d be the Beta Wooper.

Beta Wooper

Because look at it. It’s utterly adorable.
