Fantastic PvP Adventures in Sea of Thieves

I’m not normally the sort to play against other players. Actually, outside of PvE content, I’m often a bit of a pacifist. If there is PvP content, I tend to avoid it. But in Sea of Thieves, it’s PvP time all the time, you can’t turn it off, and anything can happen. And thanks to the Stormcloud, one of the deadliest ships in the sea, I’ve grown to become more bloodthirsty myself. After all, we are pirates, and being bloodthirsty is the norm, as well as stealing as much loot as we can.

Today’s adventure with the Stormcloud however was completely insane!

Well, technically this happened a few days ago, but at the time of writing, it did generally happen today… We played from about 1am to about 6:30am on the 29th, in my time zone.

Two adventures in one day

Funnily enough, as we departed from an outpost, Bacxaber, Fox and myself actually had a plan. There are two new adventures, tied to repairing an outpost that had been damaged and partly destroyed. A guy called Merrick was hiring people to help him rebuild the outpost. The Servant on the other hand demanded that the outpost remained broken and torn up. I’m not 100% sure why, but who knows?

Unfortunately, there was a little problem with the row boat. It needed to be blown up on the island itself, but Fox wasn’t close enough, so we had to restart that part of the Reapers quest.

Making a brief Alliance

After we’d finished the adventures, we actually ran into a bunch of different ships. A Reaper was busy harassing a fellow Brig and a Sloop. Turned out the brig was also on voice chat and we found ourselves in a small alliance. The Reaper didn’t stand a chance as all three of our ships pummeled them with cannon balls, and they sunk insanely quickly. In exchange for our help, the Brig and Sloop let us take some of the loot, especially the emissary flag.

If we could find it.

Due to the chaos of a 3v1 fight, we kinda… nearly lost all the loot. Luckily someone on the Brig found it and everything turned out okay in the end.

So many skeletons

After our small alliance and finishing the adventure quests, we realized that we had enough time to do a Fort of the Damned. By collecting differently coloured flames, we could activate a large boss fight against a ton of skeletons. Each skeleton would glow a specific colour, and the coloured flames made these skeletons vulnerable. You can get coloured flames by being killed in different ways. But not all the flames are easy to get. To get a white flame, one needs to be killed by lightning. Something I managed to do three times in one session.

Once all the flames had been lit on our ship, we needed to transfer the flames to a special room on the Fort of the Damned, then fight waves of skeletons until a big boss skeleton spawns. In other games, this sounds pretty easy, but in Sea of Thieves, ammo becomes a sacred and rare commodity, as you can only hold 5 total ammo at a time. Plus, the skeleton boss regularly switched to a blunderbuss, so getting into sword distance was risky.

During this battle, some random guy went and put a ritual stone into the mix (for more loot) and then revived me when I died. We had no idea who this was and they seemed to vanish halfway through the fight. But their help was appreciated.

It took us a while to defeat the boss. Mostly because, by then, it was about 5am for me and I was very tired. But we also had Fox wait aboard our ship, in case anyone tried to ninja their way in and steal our hard-earned loot.

A multi-way battle

The Fort of the Damned is a very obvious place. In order to secure ourselves with even more loot, we actually put up a Reaper flag ourselves. After all, during the fight, our ship would be a sitting duck anyway, so we might as well add some extra risk and reward. With the boss dead, we started taking loot from the secret cave back to our ship, one chest at a time. Of course, our success garnered a LOT of attention, thanks to both the boss fight and the fact that we reached Rank 5 on our Reaper flag. Everyone could see us.

Before long, other Reaper ships were on their way to fight us. But there was someone else lurking in the shadows. As we were transferring loot, someone attacked us via a rowing boat, attempting to jump aboard and blow things up. As Bacxaber and Fox dealt with the first guy, I spotted a second rogue player who had sneaked onto the island and followed us. Luckily we killed him before he could do any damage.

While the two ninjas were swiftly defeated, we had a bigger problem on our hands. There were multiple Reaper ships heading our way, having noticed our victory, and we needed to get out of there. However, first one, then two reaper ships caught up to us and opened fire straight away. The bombardment was insane, and we quickly found ourselves surrounded by cannon balls. We only just managed to keep ourselves afloat, and decided to flee. After all, they wanted all our loot AND our rank 5 flag. The flag alone was vastly valuable, perhaps more so than the treasure we found.

Somehow though, we managed to escape. The two Reaper ships turned their attention towards each other and started trying to sink eachj other. I’m not sure why or how, but I assume they wanted to kill each other in order to be free to attack us. Either way, we all agreed it was best to not complain and just get the fuck out of there.

A happy ending

After all of that though? We made a ton of money (about 150k according to my rough estimates) and we just needed to sell some other bits. The other Reaper ships had attempted to chase after us, but we managed to sell pretty much everything before they arrived.

The last thing we did though was have a nice chat with another ship. We ended up running into a sloop that were just very chill and willing to talk. Since we were finishing up our adventure, we invited them to take some cannon balls and the spooky Fort of the Damned flames, so they could do it themselves.

With all that said and done, we waved goodbye and headed off for the night, far richer than we had started. Fingers crossed our next adventure ends in a similar way, because I had a ton of fun.
