Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 0
I’ve never played an actual Pokemon game before. Sure, I play Pokemon GO, but that game has half the battling and a very different combat system. I’ve also played Pixelmon Reforged, which does have the correct combat system but is a chore to play. The most I’ve ever done is briefly play on other people’s games. And that’s it.
However, I think it’s time to change that. After all these years, I’m going to play an actual Pokemon game.
“What took you so long?”
Well, it’s mostly because I never had the right device. The consoles I had while growing up were the Playstation 1 and 2, the Nintendo Wii and that’s it. After those, I swapped to PC Gaming. About a year ago, I picked up a Nintendo Switch, fancying a change and actually owning my first handheld console. I didn’t even get a Switch for Pokemon though. I actually got a Switch to play Animal Crossing with my siblings. However, they all stopped playing and, I got tired of both my shitty island and being on my own. So I stopped playing too.
Of course, there are emulators, and I could have easily bought an old gameboy or something. But for ages, I just wasn’t really interested. And when I did, I’d just go and play Pokemon GO.
“What Pokemon game are you going to play? Can I recommend a game?”
The Pokemon game I am going to play is Pokemon Shield. The whole point of this is to have a nice, pleasant experience which isn’t too frustrating. It may seem like an odd choice, especially as you’d think I’d start on Pokemon Red or something, but I don’t want to do that. I much prefer something that has plenty of QOL stuff and is mostly up to date with the real world. Plus, I’ve experienced Kanto a billion times in other media (mostly Pokemon GO) and I want to try something new. Since Pokemon GO hasn’t quite reached Galar yet (aside from a few Pokemon), there will be more Pokemon that I won’t instantly recognize.
Also, I don’t actually own any of the other games. I am borrowing Pokemon Shield from my brother, who has three Pokemon games: Shield, Brilliant Diamond and Legends: Arceus. For a first time into a new game, I think Pokemon Shield is probably the most vanilla Pokemon experience out of those three, and I do very much like the shield doggo on the front.
“When are you starting? What about streaming?”
Not really. I’ll mostly just be following the main story and seeing what happens. For those who have played Pokemon Games before, you’ll probably get annoyed at me for doing things wrong or in a dumb way, but I’ll learn. After all, this is a brand new experience for me.
While I did consider streaming, I don’t have the right materials to do so. And, frankly, it’d be really boring. I’m just going to play and post updates here on the Daily SPUF.
Anyway, with all this explanation stuff out of the way, come back tomorrow to see what starter Pokemon I’ll pick.
