One of my favourite videos to make me happy

Sometimes, when I feel really sad, I go to Youtube and look for comforting and funny videos. Most of the time, I end up watching a UK panel show, with comedians I like. But sometimes, when I want pure, brainless humour, I head to A Jolly Wangcore’s channel and find the above video. In my opinion, it is one of the funniest gaming videos on Youtube.

I’ve actually been watching Jolly for a long time. I started watching back when he was called A Jolly Wanker, back when he used to narrate things with text rather than his voice. Those days, you could get away with a lot more… well, anything. Jolly played some horrifying mods for games like Doom and the original Half-Life, as well as the odd Half-Life 2 mods. Some of it was quite shocking, a lot of it was stupid shit. Thousands of enemies to murder, in hideously made maps, and a ton of ear rape. Honestly, some of those videos don’t belong on Youtube and they were moved to a separate channel. Apart from the videos that were flat out deleted. Around this time, Jolly did have to change his name from A Jolly Wanker to A Jolly Wangcore.

Not too long after that, Jolly started streaming on Twitch. Pretty much everyone and their dog is a streamer these days, but Jolly’s streams are absolute marathons. These days, he streams more than he posts on Youtube, but he has an insane community, and there are always stupid things going on in his streams.

Looking back at old videos, you can see how Jolly’s channel has matured. He went from no more than subtitles, to letting us hear his voice, all the way to a face reveal and the fact that Jolly is quite handsome. Jolly also plays a lot of very hard maps. Including the odd map built just for Jolly. But sometimes I’ll watch the odd video that seems impossible to complete, and Jolly beats it anyway. If there is a way to describe all of this, it’s all chaos.

When it comes to the Google Translate video though, nothing beats it. The entire mod is very silly, made sillier with broken models. You’d think that random Google translations wouldn’t be that funny, however in the mod, it’s translated and re-translated a lot. The mod is actually fully voiced, and they even went and edited stuff like signs and textures, making them Google translated as well. It’s otherwise a pretty simple mod, and its changes are mostly superficial. Still funny though, probably way, way better than other comedy mods.

The best thing about this video though? It’s how much Jolly laughs in the video. And what we see is only a tiny section, with the best bits cut together. Jolly initially streamed the Google Translate mod, then made a Youtube video out of it. So what we see is Jolly genuinely in hysterics, laughing at the game and still coming up with some cracking jokes at the same time. It’s pure, unadulterated laughter, and it makes me laugh too. I don’t even really know why it’s so funny. It just is.

If you’re feeling down, like I sometimes am, I recommend watching this video. It’s dumb and silly but it doesn’t matter. It’s all good fun.
