My Favourite Costumed Pokemon

While costumes on Pokemon can often be seen as a cheap way to better an event, there’s actually quite a lot of them that I like. Sure, these costume Pokemon waste precious space in my inventory, but I can’t help but like them. Here are my favourite costume Pokemon:

Favourite costume pokemon

Party hat Gengar

I like Pokemon in party hats. After all, my Medic in TF2 always wears a party hat, and I like to carry that over into Pokemon GO. However, there are multiple Pokemon with party hats, but I can’t like all of them. After all, not all of them can evolve. Gengar gets around that by being a fully evolved Pokemon in the first place. Sadly, Party Hat Gengar doesn’t keep the hat when it mega-evolves, but at least the Gengar is always useful. My own Party Hat Gengar is actually also a shiny, with 98% IVs, but I still like it.

Floating balloons Pikachu

Most Pikachu in costumes are very samey. It’s Pikachu in its normal stance, with a hat on it. Even the Mimikyu-costumed Pikachu is pretty normal underneath its nonsensical costume. But the floating Pikachu has its own model and stance. It’s every different from normal Pikachus and has its own attack animations as well. And on top of that, balloon Pikachu can learn Fly as a move. I have no idea if the move is any good or not, but I suppose at least Fly beats out the Ground Types that Pikachu normally fears.

Either way, it’s a pleasant change from the Pikachus with hats that we normally get.

Shadow Bowler Hat Shinx

I’ll be honest, I like this one because it’s reasonably rare and hard to get. Okay, sure, all costume Pokemon are hard to get, as they only spawn in specific events. But this Bowler Hat Shinx is pretty unique because it’s a shadow version, something that’s just, well, silly. I can imagine a Team Rocket Grunt going out for the first time with a Shinx and then ditching it when it puts a hat on.

I also have a shadow Nidorino with a party hat, but I fell it’s less unique compared to Shinx. Neither of them can evolve though, sadly.

Flower Crown Eevee

Being the second protagonist after Pikachu, of course Eevee is going to get lots of hats. What makes Eevee unique though is that it can evolve. Flower Crown Pokemon have actually appeared a few times (like on Togekiss or Buneary). But all of Eevee’s evolutions can also evolve. So you can get a full collection of Eeveelutions with flowers on their heads. Unfortunately though, it’s completely random whether you get Flareon, Vaporeon or Jolteon if you want one of those.

Armoured Mewtwo

Funnily enough, Armoured Mewtwo technically isn’t a costume Pokemon, since it has different stats to actual Mewtwo. It has less attack but more defense, as well as some different moves, like Rock Slide. And, if I’m honest, the costume isn’t amazing either. But it was a one-off Mewtwo that we haven’t seen since, as it was a promotional Pokemon. We’ve had promotional Pokemon before (like shiny Celebi), but they were all around for a bit longer than normal. Armoured Mewtwo appeared in raids for a week or so, then disappeared.

There’s always more costume Pokemon, but these ones are my favourites.

Medic

Medic, also known as Arkay, the resident god of death in a local pocket dimension, is the chief editor and main writer of the Daily SPUF, producing most of this site's articles and keeping the website daily.

For me it’s gotta be Chadstoise. I traded it to my brother back in the day and it’s still one of his ringleaders, he basically treats it like his starter. Such a baller balstoise
