A Warm Welcome Back to the Sea of Thieves

A while back, I kinda stopped playing Sea of Thieves, or any games in general. All I played was Pokemon GO. When it comes to Sea of Thieves in particular, a single gameplay session can end up being rather long. I just didn’t have the stamina for hours of gaming. But after a day of almost binge-watching my friend Bacxaber’s Sea of Thieves videos, I decided that I needed to get back into playing Sea of Thieves again. So I asked Bacxaber if he was available to play and he said yes.

That evening, we got on a sloop, then started sailing.

The first thing that hit me was the long, long loading screens. My laptop is getting a bit funny and old, so it takes me a long time to actually start playing. Thankfully, Bacxaber has a lot of patience. But once I actually got into the game, it felt like I was at home again. The pretty colours, the charming music, the familiar faces. It was great.

Bacxaber suggests we do some Gold Hoarders stuff, so we can get gold and level up on the SoT season pass. I had 8 million gold so I bought the storage crate. Bacxaber has been spending his money on skeleton cosmetics, which are pretty damn pricey, and I enjoy watching my money increase, so finding vaults for the Gold Hoarders was always a good start. And, luckily, we actually got some map pieces quite quickly. Before we knew it, we already had a vault key and off we sailed to Mermaid’s Hideaway, where the gold vault was located. As we traveled though, we were very cautious, since we saw several ships on our journey.

We park our boat and go and open the vault. From it we get a fuckton of chests, all ready to sell. And, thanks to a QoL change, we could now instantly harpoon everything up, rather than having someone to grab the loot from the end of the harpoon. It’s amazingly quick and I love it. However, we get a message that Metz, Bacxaber’s fellow crew mate and master of chaos, wants to join us. So we sell everything as fast as we can, then leave our sloop to join Metz’s Brig. But not before we are attacked by a random unpainted sloop. The sloop speeds off, so we decide to let them live. That is until they come back and try to attack us again. We sink them, steal their loot then head off to join Metz.

Once on board Metz’s ship, we start sailing again, doing another Gold Hoarder vault mission. That goes by pretty quickly. On our way, we make an alliance with a sloop with two people on it. They ask if we want to do the Fort of Fortune event that had just come up. We say sure and we make our way to the fort.

We start the fight pretty quickly, despite the huge number of kegs. The battle goes pretty well, but suddenly we hear cannon balls. It turns out, the sloop we allied with betrayed us and sank our ship while we were busy doing the hard work! They also kill Bacxaber and Metz, and they respawn on a far away island. I last a bit longer, mostly by running around like a headless chicken, but I end up dying as well.

Of course, this means war. Once we’ve all respawned, we head back to the fort, where the sloop is trying to get away. So we give chase. The sloop tries all sorts of tactics to try and escape, but we hunt them down like hungry wolves who won’t be denied their loot. They try boarding us but we kill them. They try sailing between rocks and beaches to dissuade us, but we continue to follow. As far as we’re concerned, we’re ready to chase them all night to exact our revenge. We go as far as the Reapers Hideout as the wind changes in our favour. We get close enough, Bacxaber boards while I fire cannon balls on them and Metz keeps us on target. With nowhere else to go, Bacxaber kills them both and we sink them.

As the sloop sinks, we reclaim all the loot that had been stolen, as well as our old emissary flag. Since we’re basically at the Reapers Hideout, we head there, sign up as Reapers and start selling everything. While we’re selling though, another brig appears. It doesn’t last very long as Metz and Bacxaber destroy the brig using the cannons on the Hideout. They have little loot but we sell that anyway.

With everything sold, we lower our emissary flag and call it a day.

That’s why I love Sea of Thieves. These adventures are so much fun.
