Hellsing Ultimate Abridged

I’m not a huge fan of anime. Partly because I don’t really know where to watch it, but also because there’s a lot of anime genres that I don’t particularly like. Also I have a short attention span and don’t really like watching tons and tons of episodes. I don’t particularly watch western cartoons either. As a kid, I did watch things like Dragonball Z, which I have mentioned in the past, but after the age of twelve, I kinda stopped watching cartoons at all, instead only catching snippets of badly dubbed episodes of Pokemon.

But now I’m older and capable of using the internet, that means I can find stuff. Well, I say that, even now, I still haven’t looked up much anime. The most I’ve watched is a bit of Parasyte, as well as various episodes of Dragonball. What I have watched though is Dragonball Z Abridged, which I absolutely adored. And browsing on the Team Four Star channel, I came across something else: Hellsing Ultimate Abridged.

I’ve never actually seen Hellsing Ultimate. I think it’s a pretty short anime, mostly because the Abridged version is also pretty short. Hellsing Ultimate Abridged spans over 10 episodes (with episodes 1-3 and 4-5 grouped up together) so I assume the actual anime is short. I can also tell, thanks to the note at the beginning of episodes 1-3, that each actual episode took a year to come out, there’s about a year between each episode. So it’s probably a good thing that I’m watching this in the future, because waiting a year for each episode is pretty insane.

As to what Hellsing Ultimate is about, it follows Alucard, the vampire king, working for the mysterious Hellsing Institution, where they deal with rogue monsters. Mostly either other vampires or ghouls made by vampires. We also have Sir Integra, who runs Hellsing, and to whom Alucard is completely loyal to, and Seres Victoria, a police officer that Alucard turned into a vampire. Mostly because she’s a big titty police lady. At least, that is the reason given in Hellsing Ultimate Abridged. I don’t know what the reason is in the real show, because I’ve not watched it. There are also a lot of Nazi vampires that get murdered in gruesome ways, which is always a good thing. The show is full of blood and is wonderfully violent. Both in the real show and the abridged version.

But honestly, I don’t think I even want to watch the original show. Because Hellsing Ultimate Abridged is just too damn good. It’s a great parody and it is jam-packed with humour. It’s one of the funniest shows I’ve watched in a while, and it just keeps on coming. There’s no sections where I am bored or want to skip. I also love the parodies of these characters. I think my favourite character is Alexander Anderson, mostly because of the synergy between him and Alucard, but also partially because of the thick accent they gave him.

If anything, I think Hellsing Ultimate Abridged is probably better than Dragonball Z Abridged, simply because it has better closure. You can sit down and watch it in one sitting, like a horrifically bloody but hilarious movie. It’s a great show and it’s probably better than the original. 10 out of 10, I would definitely recommend it. Unless you don’t like blood and gore. Because there is a LOT of gore in this show.
