Noibat Community Day
One of my favorite Pokemon is Noivern. So when I heard that we were getting a Noibat Community Day, I was very happy. This was a chance for me to get a hold of plenty of Noibats and hopefully be able to evolve a good Noivern. Things didn’t quite go as planned. The weather was quite threatening, and due to a mix-up I didn’t charge up my battery pack. So it was basically a race against the clock to see how many Noibats I could catch.
What’s nice though was the triple stardust and double catch candy. Despite being a 400-candy Pokemon, I amassed enough candy to evolve four Noibats, and still have enough candy for 2-3 more. The spawns were good, and I got about 10 shinies, which isn’t too bad. I’d have liked more, but I am already strained when it comes to backpack space. On top of that, the Noibat shiny is one of my favourites. The green and black go very well together, and I like the crimson on Noivern. The question is, how useful is Noivern?
Sadly, Noivern’s attacks render it useless.
Normally, in the main series games, you can have a bunch of different moves, and Boomburst is one that Noivern can learn, fitting with its name. But here in Pokemon GO, where we only have three attacks at most (two of which are charge attacks), Noivern’s viability goes out of the window. There’s two reasons for this: firstly, normal-type moves are useless on the majority of Pokemon, because they can never hit super-effectively. But secondly, Air Slash, Noivern’s only flying-type fast attack, is utterly useless. It gains very little energy, meaning it takes forever for Noivern to charge up any attack. If Noivern had a spammy, low-cost move, then this wouldn’t be too much of a problem, but all of Noivern’s charge attacks are slow-charging, heavy-hitting nuke moves. It simply takes forever for Noivern to ever get a charge attack off before it dies.
In PvE, it’s even worse. There are already a lot of viable dragon-types and flying-types that are bulkier and have better moves than Noibat. Draco Meteor would be good, but Noivern’s got no dragon fast attack. And as for flying types, we’ve got the likes of Staraptor and Pidgeot doing just as well and with better moves. And let’s face it, we only use flying types when fighting Virizion. Most of those flying types are Moltres.
I got a better one already
On the plus side, I managed to get enough XL Candy to max out a Noivern, but that Noivern won’t be any of the ones I caught today. I’ll be clinging onto my 98% lucky Noivern called Arkay. He’s not shiny, but he’s a best buddy and has already been powered up. I didn’t manage to catch anything to beat it out, so I’ll just use an Elite TM on him, since I have a spare few. However I did evolve a few. I evolved three Noiverns today: a XXL and an XXS Noivern and one shiny with good stats.
At the end of the day, I think I over-hyped myself. I was hoping to come away with a great Noivern, but only really got some mediocre Noiverns. Plus, the weather was pretty awful, and we were playing mostly alone, just me and my brother. On the plus side, at least I got some nice shinies.
