Dark Spooky Forest Week: Hunt Showdown

I had been looking forward to Hunt: Showdown for years, since it was first announced as Horrors of the Gilded Age back in 2014. The many comparisons to Left 4 Dead was the first selling point that caught my attention, and the unique 1860’s aesthetic was just gravy. But I didn’t expect how long I’d have to wait. The game labored in development hell for over half a decade, going through a massive rebranding into a pseudo-competitive Battle Royale with a new name that I honestly didn’t like as much as the original. The title Hunt: Showdown tells me almost nothing about the… [Continue Reading]

Medic tries Apex Legends

Apex Legends is a 60-player Battle Royale game published by EA. That sentence is normally enough to send me screaming and running away in the other direction. A game related to EA? Some sort of Battle Royale game? One that involves slightly more realistic shooting? None of those things are options I like in my video games. I’ve always been the sort who prefers more cartoony stuff, but here I am, giving Apex a try. Funnily enough, Apex Legends is actually a game I have been pestered about for ages. Despite all the aforementioned problems that would normally put me… [Continue Reading]

Super Animal Royale

I’ve mentioned before how I don’t like battle royales. I find them a bit tedious as a game mode with victory being impossible to obtain and no one giving a shit unless you come second in a massive tournament. I also dislike how it’s so easy to crank out a battle royale game – just make a massive map, trickle weapons and armour on it and then throw in a bunch of players. Add some sort of cosmetic and micro-transaction system and lure players in and you’re pretty much done. Super Animal Royale is a battle royale game that goes… [Continue Reading]

A Permanent Sense of Not Winning and Doing Nothing

I’ve secretly always been insanely competitive, but I’ve always hid that side by playing games where it doesn’t matter too much if you lose, or by playing games that are actually pretty easy once you get the hang of them. At the same time, I’ve also had a ton of people ask me if I want to play various battle royale games, mainly Apex and Fortnite. You’d think, what with the loose, “jump in, jump out” system that battle royale games have, I’d want to play them, right? Wrong. In a battle royale game, there is only one winner. Meaning… [Continue Reading]

FortniteBR: Actually an alright game despite questionable meta

Surprising for sure, given it’s mainstream reputation as a game for kids and all… Wait… when was the last time I actually did an article here?.. Oh, right, two years… Anyway, I’ve been playing quite a bit of Fortnite as of late (a little too much, if I may admit), and it happens that I actually really enjoy both Save the World and Battle Royale, but today we’re gonna talk about the latter… You guys are aware that Fortnite did have a PvE mode though, right? A lot of people don’t seem to know that. Being Free to Play, it… [Continue Reading]

Fortnite Battle Royale

I never really got the hype surrounding the idea of Battle Royale. Neither in its infancy nor when PUBG had suddenly conquered the world. I couldn’t understand what enjoyment you could possibly get out of running around on auto-pilot for half an hour, picking up whatever goodies you come across, only to be shot and killed instantly in the middle of a barren wasteland with no cover from half a mile away at an angle you couldn’t possibly have predicted. Then news came out about Fortnite Battle Royale along with a trailer and news the beta would be going live… [Continue Reading]
