The Ubervitatator Vow and Other Beta Weapons

I was browsing around the official TF2 wiki when I remembered the old TF2 Beta. Originally, the beta was a separate, 12GB download, in which Valve occasionally tested stuff like the Overdose, a bunch of pocket Soldier weapons and the Detonator. A lot of stuff that happened in the beta stayed in the beta, never to be seen again. One of those things was a souped up Vita-Saw. Yes, a Vita-Saw. One of the beta patches gave the Vita-Saw the ability to see enemy health. I never got to try this ungodly combination, but it must have been somewhat amusing.… [Continue Reading]

Design a weapon for TF2! (part two!)

I asked this question before, but there were only three staff members then. No reusing weapon concepts, you three! ———————————— John Caveson: A modified 1903 Springfield rifle for Soldier that’s a replacement for the shotty and basically a sniper rifle that can only no-scope. It would probably do around a 40-50 damage pershot. If you pick the wrong Medi Gun for the situation, you screw up everything. So what if there was a Medi Gun… [Continue Reading]

Are Three Weapon Slots Not Enough?

One thing that makes Engy and Spy unique are their PDAs (fourth and fifth slot tools). It gives them a unique role without pigeonholing their main weaponry. Imagine if Spy could only have a revolver, knife and cloak and Engy could only have Construction PDA, Shotgun and Wrench! It would severely limit their role and their combat effectiveness. I believe the same is true with the Heavy, the Pyro and possibly the Scout, the Sniper and the Medic. Wouldn’t it be amazing if they had an extra ‘PDA’ slot for an extra weapon or consumable? If you look at the… [Continue Reading]
