Mega Evolutions are actually good now in Pokemon GO

When Mega Evolutions first came out in Pokemon GO, the system was genuinely not very good at all. The costs to Mega Evolve were really high, they didn’t last very long and getting mega candy was genuinely a chore. However, these days, Mega Pokemon are way more accessible. To the point that they are actually worth using. They last longer The first major change to Mega Evolutions was to make them last longer. Originally, Mega Pokemon only lasted for four hours, before turning back to normal. This was changed to 8 hours, which gives players plenty more time, especially in… [Continue Reading]

My Thoughts on Dynamaxing

I never really got around to trying Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves. As far as I was always concerned, Z-Moves seemed boring to me, while Mega Evolutions looked fun and stupidly powerful. Then we have Dynamax, which, when I originally first saw it, looked like Mega Evolutions but worse. Your Pokemon gets all big, grows extra features and gets some cool moves in the process. The whole system is introduced in the first cutscene of the game, by a Gigantamax Charizard with wings made of fire. If you had shown me a picture of either of Charizard’s Mega forms alongside its… [Continue Reading]

Making More Use of Our Mega Pokemon

When Mega Pokemon first appeared in Pokemon GO, no one was particularly happy. Mega Pokemon were expensive to obtain and required doing raid battles for Pokemon most people already had. All for a handful of candy and 4 hours of one Mega Pokemon. Over time though, Mega Pokemon have slowly gotten better and better. The costs for evolving a Mega dropped, we got 8 hours of Mega time instead of 4, and new ways of getting Mega Candy were added, so you didn’t need to do constant raids. However, with the release of Mega Latias and Mega Latios, we’ve received… [Continue Reading]

A Like and Dislike for Mega Raids in Pokemon GO

It seems that most people have somewhat accepted Mega Pokemon. Now that there are easier ways to earn Mega Candy, and the Megas stay around for 8 hours, it’s all just about acceptable. Yet still, there’s something about Mega Raids that irks me. They’re just not quite right. No one really wants to do them If you’re unlucky enough to miss a debut of a mega Pokemon, then you probably won’t find many people hosting them. At least, that’s the problem I’ve been having with Mega Raids. I couldn’t get people to join in Manectric raids nor Ampharos. But even… [Continue Reading]

Yet More Complaining About Mega Pokemon

I wasn’t going to complain any more about Mega Pokemon in Pokemon GO. It felt rather fruitless, especially since it’s so easily ignored. But, on a whim, I decided to Mega-Evolve a Gengar for a Lugia raid. My Gengar, with a CP of 3336, lasted all of 10 seconds. Lugia’s Dragon Tail kicked the shit out of it, then nuked Gengar with a Hydro Pump. I might as well have just used a Darkrai or a Giratina, both of which lasted far longer than my Mega Gengar did. This is despite me trying to dodge. Because dodging only seems to… [Continue Reading]

Is There A Use to Mega Pokemon?

The other day, I saw my first practical use of someone using a Mega Pokemon in a raid. During a raid against Giratina, someone used a Mega Houndoom. Sadly, I was using Dragon types at the time, and because there were 15 people in the raid, it didn’t really do much. But the thought was nice, and Mega Houndoom is cool. However, just how worthwhile was that Mega Evolution? Let’s have a look. Step 1: obtaining your Mega Evolution To Mega Evolve your Houndoom for the first time, you need 200 candy. You get a maximum of 90 candy per… [Continue Reading]
