On Dragonite

Playing Pokemon Go has brought out the nerdy side of me. It’s also gone and brought out a lot of nostalgia, as well as a desire to go through all my old Pokemon cards. When I was little and when I collected them, my two favourites were always Ponyta and Dratini. I managed to collect multiple Rapidash and Dragonair cards, but I never found a Dragonite, so for a long time, I’d forgotten about that Pokemon. It wasn’t until I hatched a Dratini from an egg in Pokemon Go that I remembered that Dragonite was a thing. Because I instantly… [Continue Reading]

Fricking Gengar

November 3rd, from noon until 3pm local time, every raid was replaced by Gengar, with a chance to get a shiny one. It was a bit like the Moltres day, except Gengar’s a weird purple lump and Moltres is a legendary flaming chicken. I never really understood the obsession with Gengar. Sure, he can get Shadow Ball, which is a high damage attack, and he’s a Ghost type Pokemon, but he’s also the most glass cannon-y of glass cannons. If you can get a nice Shadow Ball off Gengar, sure, the damage is good. But all it takes is one… [Continue Reading]

5 Quality of Life Features I’d Like to See in Pokemon GO

I do enjoy Pokemon GO, but sometimes the game feels like it’s wearing me down, that some basic actions are rather tedious and annoying, only fixed with a little bit of trial and error. So I’ve gone and made a little list of features and changes that I feel would make Pokemon GO a little bit more user friendly! The ability to view attacks or elements when picking Pokemon for battle I’ve got a good 10 Houndooms, all of which have got different attacks and different CPs. Most of them have dark attacks, but a couple of them have either… [Continue Reading]

Spiritomb and Its Mini Quest

Pokemon Go this year has a pretty nice Halloween event. Two new Generation 4 Pokemon (Drifloon and Stunky, plus their evolutions) and a huge influx of Ghost type Pokemon. Giratina has replaced Mewtwo in level 5 raids and November 3rd promises nothing but Gengar in raids for 3 hours, with Gengar having a shiny form. But there’s also some special research. A quest called A Spooky Message. The reward? A Spiritomb. As special research goes, A Spooky Message isn’t particularly difficult or anything, it’s just tedious. There are 3 parts to this special research, but stage 3 doesn’t actually do… [Continue Reading]

The 5 Best Legacy Moves in Pokemon GO

Back when Pokemon GO first came out, my younger brother Jake (the airsoft guy) bought into the hype and we played together all the time. It was awesome; we’d hike down to the local park, sweep out gyms and warn each other when something rare popped up on the radar. He gave the game up at around the same time everyone else did. But when he recently learned that I still play, he granted me permission to look through his old account and trade out whatever Pokemon I might want. He had all sorts of cool things with ancient legacy… [Continue Reading]

A Fun Beldum Community Day

You know what? I wasn’t too sure when I first heard that Beldum would be the Pokemon of choice for the October Community Day in Pokemon GO. It seems like such a strange Pokemon, lacking in any of the charm that other Community Day Pokemon had. Chikorita, Eevee and all that, they’re generally quite cute. Beldum is rather weird-looking and its evolutions are not cute in any way what so ever. But still, who can say no to the chance of getting more shinies! This Community Day was on a Sunday, meaning I was joined by not only my brother,… [Continue Reading]

The Early Birds of Generation Four in Pokemon Go

It seems that the first few members of Generation 4 have started appearing in Pokemon Go. The three starter Pokemon, Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplio were all teased over the last few days, and a handful of Pokemon have started popping up alongside the normal bunch of regulars one sees around town. The list though is quite small. The entirety of Generation 4 hasn’t been released yet, it is literally just under thirty Pokemon. The three starters and their evolutions, the Starly evolution line, the Shinx evolution line, Bidoof and his evolution, Riolu and Lucario, Buneary and Lopunny and a handful… [Continue Reading]

A Perfect Ending to a Mythical Discovery

After so damn long, I finally managed to finish A Mythical Discovery, the special research in Pokemon Go for Mew. I got stuck on this quest so many damn times. But it all finished very abruptly and probably in the best way possible. So the Mew quest is a bit of a funny one, and is actually a requirement if you want to do the Celebi quest. The Celebi quest unlocks when you reach stage 4 of 8 of A Mythical Discovery. But both quests are pretty similar, with the same old series of steps. The Mew quest though doesn’t… [Continue Reading]

5 Items I Want to See in Pokemon GO

Bag space in Pokemon GO is precious. Pokestops, Gyms, Gifts, Field Research, level-ups, and raids will quickly shower you with more items than you know what to do with, so it is not without serious pontification that I humbly suggest several items Niantic could add to Pokemon GO that would improve the game in subtle ways. 1. Master Ball: This one’s kinda a freebie for this sort of list, to be honest. It’s almost certain they’re going to add a Master Ball eventually. For those not in the know, the Master Ball is an infamous item from the main Pokemon games. You… [Continue Reading]

My First and Last Ex Raid

Editor’s note (20/11/18) : This wasn’t my last Ex Raid but I was so pissed off at the time and the chances of getting into Ex Raids in general was pretty slim anyway, that I was pretty sure at the time that I wouldn’t see another one. I was so damn excited on the 26th of September. I got an Ex Raid pass in Pokemon Go. A Raid Pass specifically for October 2nd, 1pm. My first one. Probably my only one, because I don’t normally do raids. I can’t do anything above a level 2 raid on my own and… [Continue Reading]
