On Playing as Reapers in the Sea of Thieves

So far, while playing Sea of Thieves, we’ve mostly been doing the same few things. But we always do these things as an Emissary, earning experience for different factions. Outside of Veil missions, the Stormcloud are often representing the Reapers’ Bones, and the faction is somewhat frowned upon. Why? Because, although they spend a lot of time doing the same things as other ships, the Reapers are generally considered the PvP faction. And it turns out not everyone is a fan of the Reapers’ Bones. Or PvP in general. Reapers are easy to avoid Well, they’re super easy to avoid,… [Continue Reading]

Veil Voyages For A Cool Hat

When it comes to what you actually do in Sea of Thieves, a big chunk of the game is unlocking better cosmetics. One of Sea of Thieves’ big draw is actually fashion, where you make yourself as awesome and badass as possible. However, a lot of the better gear is locked behind quests, voyages and more. And many others are locked behind doing the same sort of mission over and over. But one hat in particular was locked away behind a tedious grind, doing Veil Voyages over and over. And over. Basically, we needed to do 50 of these Veil… [Continue Reading]

So Much Loot that it Caused Performance Issues

The nice thing about Sea of Thieves is that every single outing has something different going on. The previous time I played, we had a sloop following us for several miles, playing a game of cat and mouse. This time however, we had, well, insanity on our hands. What started out as a normal Veil mission ended up in… Well… Uh… I don’t know. It’s hard to describe. We’d just finished our first Veil quest when this happened. The plan was to spend our day doing Veil voyages, getting progress towards one of the best hats in the game. And,… [Continue Reading]

More Adventures on the Stormcloud – Sea of Thieves

It’s funny what some people do for cosmetics. I once spent ages doing a boss fight in Warframe to get Shocking Step, an ephemera. But some cosmetics are insanely out of reach, particularly in the Sea of Thieves. Lately, my adventures in the Sea of Thieves has mostly involved doing Veil missions. If I do enough of them, then I get a cool hat. By enough, I mean like 50 of this mission, which can easily take an hour or so. But alas, Bacxaber and his crew really, really want this hat. And I don’t blame them, it’s a cool… [Continue Reading]

Sea of Thieves is a very pretty game

Normally, when I play Sea of Thieves, it’s really late at night. The crew I play with are all terrifying pirates that strike fear into both Sea of Thieves players and Team Fortress 2 players at the same time. They are all also people who live far away from me, in Canada and the US. So time zones, as you can imagine, are awful. Still, it’s worth staying up to play with them. As the hours fly by, I get more and more tired, to the point that I can only just follow instructions. In order to try and stay… [Continue Reading]

Fight or Flee in the Sea of Thieves

The Sea of Thieves is just that: a sea of thieves. We’re all pirates roaming across a special, pirate-only part of the sea, trying to make ourselves as rich and powerful as possible. But not everyone has the same ideas in Sea of Thieves. Some people just want to be overly friendly and look for treasure. Others prefer the more standard pirate life, which involves murder and pillaging anyone they see. What makes people stand out though is how they deal with conflict. Fighting or Fleeing The question is, do you stay and fight and hold your ground, or do… [Continue Reading]

On Lava and Looking Hot

Sea of Thieves has quite a lot of different cosmetics. Absolutely tons of gear to customize your character. While the character creation screen is one of the strangest I have ever seen in a video game, at least Sea of Thieves makes up for it by having a ton of cosmetics that can be bought or unlocked. However, you can also unlock Curses, which are basically TF2’s Unusual gear except for your skin. Curses look really cool, but they are obtained by doing all sorts of difficult tasks. So, when I next played with Bacxaber and his crew, we all… [Continue Reading]

The Weirdest Character Creation Screen

Even if you don’t play a lot of games, it’s quite common for you to  be able to change how you look. As someone starts up a new game, one of the first things they do is create a character, an avatar to represent oneself. However, there’s no standard way to make a character creation screen. Depending on the game, character creation screens can be incredibly basic or incredibly complicated, with a whole plethora of methods in order to make a character a player wants. Because there are no standards though, character creation is a minefield. No sliders, no buttons… [Continue Reading]

The Surprisingly Balanced and Fair Fighting in Sea of Thieves

I won’t lie, I’m a complete newbie in Sea of Thieves. But I have noticed something which actually seems quite odd and quite interesting to me. While Sea of Thieves does have a large PvP component, it’s all weirdly balanced in a variety of ways. To the point that it comes to mostly skill when it comes to fighting. Everyone has the exact same tools. Mechanically, everyone in Sea of Thieves is on the same level. While you can gain levels in all the different factions, your character is always the same. A freshly spawned new pirate has the exact… [Continue Reading]

Sea of Thieves – Newbie Luck and Epic Treasure

I don’t always write about my gaming adventures, and when I do, I generally write them in the second person, or directed at readers. But in my second ever voyage in Sea of Thieves, I had an absolutely awesome time, despite, well, it being my second ever voyage. We got a ton of loot. And in quite an odd way. In our voyage, we were a three-player squad: Bacxaber, Metz and me, the brand new pirate. I was sailing on the Stormcloud with two veteran players on a brig decked out in reaper colours. While I had played through the… [Continue Reading]
