How To Win Every Showcase in Pokemon GO

With the Season of Wonders update, we actually got a bunch of new showcases. The first of which was for Electric Type Pokemon. We were getting more to mostly fill gaps between events, but also because there’s a new reward tied to showcases: if you get the platinum medal for winning showcases, you can get a Professor Pikachu. And, along the way, you can unlock some cosmetic items and a pose for your avatar. The problem is, winning showcases can be a little bit tricky. Luckily, there are some tips on how to win more often. Save your XXL Pokemon… [Continue Reading]

Random Pokemon Showcases

During the 7th Anniversary Event in Pokemon GO, we were introduced to a new feature in Pokemon GO: Showcases. Appearing on random Pokestops, you’d have the opportunity to put your Pokemon in a Showcase, and whichever Pokemon had the best stat – in this case, size – would win their owner some small rewards. These showcases would only appear on specific Pokestops, and you can enter any Pokemon that matches the criteria. In the case of the 7th Anniversary event, it was “biggest Squirtle”. However, these showcases were initially brief, and they disappeared for most of the rest of the… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Project Ghost

Welcome back to Mod Showcase. Brickinator again, here to chat about Project Ghost, a fairly new mod gamemode that’s part of the TF2 Tightrope community. Project Ghost draws many parallels with ghost-hunting TV shows; there’s lots of people in a cramped area, constant screaming and a complete lack of ghosts. Why the hell they chose the name ‘Project Ghost’ is beyond me. In fact, I haven’t got a ghost of a clue why they chose it! Comedy gold. Project Ghost is a plugin for Arena mode. Remember Arena mode? Me neither. At the start of each new round, the game… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Jailbreak

Welcome to Mod Showcase. I’m Brickinator and today we’ll be discussing Jailbreak, the prison simulator that thankfully omits showertime. Unlike entertaining gamemodes, Jailbreak elects to do away with foolish notions of gameplay and instead dumps you in a server filled with pre-pubescent prison officers and criminals who have been detained for crimes against eardrums. The players are split between two teams; one team are the guards who get weapons and authority complexes. The unlucky sods get to play the hapless prisoners to bow down to the every whim of their overlords. One of the guards is designated as the warden.… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Randomizer

Welcome back to Mod Showcase. Brickinator here. Today’s article is about Randomizer-  a plugin that combines the carefully crafted and immensely intricate balance system of Team Fortress 2 and defecates all over it. Any sort of tactics or strategy you had for each class has now gone out of the window because, in a Randomizer match, everything is down to chance. Using the word ‘chance’ to describe core multiplayer gameplay is like using the words ‘bloody and viscous’ to describe a urine sample, but Randomizer manages to pull it off. The first thing you need to realise with Randomizer is… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Stop that Tank!

Welcome back to Mod Showcase. Brickinator here to talk about Stop that Tank!, a mod gamemode that combines Mann versus Machine, Payload and annoying punctuation in mod titles that ruins the syntax. Like all hybrids that don’t turn out to be creepy mutated squid people, Stop that Tank! takes the best parts of the gamemodes it seeks to emulate. In this case, the Mann versus Machine tank and the Payload maps’ long, winding tracks. The mod is still being worked on and it’s garnered a lot of popularity, but the fact that only two servers run it means that it’s… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Death Run

Welcome to another thrilling instalment of Mod Showcase. Brickinator here and I’m gonna chat about Death Run. Contrary to its name Death Run is not an 80’s action movie and is instead a frantic gamemode in which one team must navigate through an obstacle course of deadly traps. The traps usually kill instantly and you don’t respawn for the rest of the match; it’s basically a Japanese gameshow but without the remorse. All but one player are put on the RED team, known as the ‘runners’. The BLU team consists of that one guy left over- usually whoever won last round. He’s… [Continue Reading]

Mod Showcase: Mario Kart

Hello. I’m Brickinator. This is Mod Showcase. The end is coming. Today we’ll be having a look at Mario Kart, the worst custom Team Fortress 2 map ever made. There are no objectives and the level is a horrific, blocky landscape covered in rainbows. It basically looks like a Lego set covered in pixie jizz. Be afraid. Be very afraid. At first glance, Mario Kart appears to be a sugary bit of children’s drizzle where you can piss around, but the more you play it the more you realise it’s actually a stonehearted exposé of everything that’s wrong with our faltering so-called… [Continue Reading]
