Three Years of Five Hundred Words

On December 31st 2018, I finished my third year in a row of writing 500 words a day. Every day since January 1st 2016, I have written at least 500 words a day, writing a coherent, complete article or short story with a precise beginning and end. I’ve done this without fail, even when I’ve not been at home or not had access to a keyboard, computer or laptop. In fact, most of the time I manage to write at least 600 words a day, and very often I’ll write more, sometimes writing two 500 word articles or even one… [Continue Reading]

Eidolons and Spidolons

After the Fortuna 2.0 update, there are now two massive bosses you can fight. They both have the same basic idea, being composed of adapting Sentient parts, requiring a little team work at first and being immune to various sorts of damage. In fact, the Orbs are actually made from bits of sentient stuff, hence why they’ve got the nickname Spidolons. But the two fights are very, very different. And not always in a good way. Let’s have a quick recap of how an Eidolon fight and how a Profit-Taker Orb fight works. Eidolon fights require you to take down… [Continue Reading]

On WordPress 5.0

WordPress 5.0 came out late November. Not long afterwards, WordPress 5.0.1 and WordPress 4.9.9 came out to address a bunch of security issues. Not long after that, WordPress 5.0.2 was released to deal with some bugs. Now, normally I update WordPress as soon as I can, after checking that there’s nothing weird. All my WordPress installations are set up to automatically download and do security updates, but it’s worth checking before you do a major update just in case a plugin is no longer compatible. Most plugin authors will want to update their work as well, so you’ll always end… [Continue Reading]

On Being Mastery Rank 26

Mastery Rank 26, Silver Sage, is currently the highest accessible Mastery Rank in the game, with there not being enough weapons, Warframes and other items to level up to be able to reach Mastery Rank 27. Somehow, I managed to reach Mastery Rank 26. I did so in just under 2500 hours, according to Steam, but really it was far less, since those 2500 hours include the time I’ve spent idling in Fortuna 69, trading in my dojo, answering questions in Region Chat and, uh, updating the game. I’m pretty sure I’ve spent at least 20 hours alone updating the… [Continue Reading]

On Building in Garry’s Mod

Garry’s Mod has always been like ten games in one. On top of the ol’ posing and stuff like that using the default Half-Life 2 items, there’s a ton of multiplayer stuff as well, and that often gets the most attention. While it requires Counter-Strike: Source for most of its mods, there are so many mini-games to play. There’s everything from Trouble in Terrorist Town to the Hidden to Prop Hunt to weirder things like Half-Life Roleplay servers and weird custom zombie survival maps. But sometimes it’s nice to just sit down and build. Building is actually quite complicated. There… [Continue Reading]

Angry Monk Frame

It took me long enough but I finally managed to obtain and start leveling up Baruuk, the new Warframe released alongside the Fortuna Part 2 update before the holidays. Baruuk is supposedly some sort of peaceful frame that loses his restraint before murdering everything with his fists, but it feels like there’s something missing. As to where Baruuk came from, there’s no lore about him yet. Like Garuda, he was plonked into the new Venus areas and basically left there, just sitting in the inventory of a grumpy bitch hiding out in a backroom in Fortuna. All we have so… [Continue Reading]

Override: Mech City Brawl

I’ve been waiting for this game since I saw the trailer on Reddit some time in November. Override: Mech City Brawl is a game where you pilot mechs and pummel giant monsters and other mechs into the ground. Which is why I am so looking forward to getting this game. The game supports local and online multiplayer, for co-op and versus. Just a note, despite having a campaign, this game is mainly multiplayer-focused. Case in point, it took me about a bit over an hour to go through the campaign. The main focus of Override’s combat is on melee. There… [Continue Reading]

Some More Little Things I’d Like in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go is a great little game, but there’s always things that could be done better. Here are six little things, just small tweaks, that I’d like to see in Pokemon Go. The Chance to Find Evolved Shinies in the Wild Did you know you can’t actually find evolved Pokemon as shinies in the wild? Unless specifically mentioned for Raids (e.g. Shiny Gengar, Shiny Raichu), or in specific events (the one day Shiny Nidoqueen that appeared for World Women Day), if you see an evolved Pokemon in the wild, it won’t be a shiny. Which frankly I don’t know why… [Continue Reading]

The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls – A Physical Game Based on a Video Game

My brother loves everything related to the Binding of Isaac, and it’s one of the games he’s proud to have nearly perfectly completed. So when he heard of a board game kickstarter, of course he had to go and spend €50 on the game, which arrived just before Christmas. And it’s alright. The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls is a board/card game where four people can play as one of the characters from the Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth, using various items from the Binding of Isaac series. Players take turns attacking monsters by rolling dice and buying and using various… [Continue Reading]

Reincarnated Past

Long time ago, I talked about Brick Game. I was somewhat sad that I couldn’t get my hands on one of those around here, and was lamenting that at the end of the article. Yesterday, however, I found this. It is almost like the one I have as a kid, except that mine was blue, is in a horizontal orientation, with the screen between the buttons, and … OK it is nothing like my old brick game console. It is also really, really small. The thing itself functions pretty much the same as my old brick game console though. It… [Continue Reading]
