The Legendary Birds Returned Yet Again

To finish off the Kanto Celebration, we got a very nice little raid event. On the last day of February, the Legendary Birds returned for 3 hours in 5 star raids. It’s a pretty nice send off for what felt like an endless Kanto event.

Back with special moves!

Well, I say special moves, I mean the special moves they’ve had for ages. Hurricane for Articuno, Thunder Shock for Zapdos and Sky Attack for Moltres. Zapdos and Moltres’s moves are generally pretty good, but Hurricane is… just alright for Articuno. In fact, these are the special moves these Pokemon received back when I started playing in 2018. My first shiny was a Moltres with Sky Attack.

What’s sad though is that we didn’t get Mewtwo in this event as well. Mewtwo with Psy Strike returned during the Kanto Tour, but with so much to do, there wasn’t really time to do any raids. It would have been nice to see Mewtwo in this event as well. Heck, Mewtwo probably would have made way more money, since raid events tend to have slightly better shiny chances, and people always want shiny Mewtwo.

They’ve been around a lot though.

I mean, the Legendary Birds have been around all week. And they were around all day on the Kanto Tour. And, on top of that, they had rotated in and out of raids throughout the weeks prior. Sure, this time, they had been around with their moves, but it’s repetitive. Heck, the Legendary Birds are returning as Giovanni’s shadow Pokemon over the next 3 months.

Speaking of Team Rocket, we also got to TM Frustration away during this event, AND we have a new Team Rocket special research to do. However, just like the Legendary Birds, this quest is kinda more of the same. It’s actually easier than previous Team Rocket quests. Theoretically, if you live in a big enough place, you could actually easily finish the quest DURING the raid hour. The only tricky steps are winning one raid, finding 3 candy with your buddy and getting lucky with Team Leader spawns. Because, yet again, you have to defeat each of the three leaders before you can face Giovanni.

Honestly kinda glad it’s easier though. I wouldn’t want a bunch of pain in the ass tasks for another shadow Articuno.

I actually had the worst RNG.

Not only did I fail to catch any shinies, but I failed to catch any good Pokemon. I got one 96% Articuno, but all my other catches were 2*. I was going for a shiny Zapdos, but I didn’t get any shinies at all. Worse, no one else really wanted to go for shiny Zapdos (because it’s a kinda mediocre shiny) so I didn’t get many chances either. At least I managed to catch them all though, that makes a change.

However, what is even more unlucky is that I only managed to get 3 rare candy total, from 6 raids. Instead, I got way, way too many Hyper Potions, which I don’t really need. Ended up deleting most of them to make space, because I wasn’t even really using them for raids. My army of Rhyperiors worked hard. And, with teams of 7 or more people, I didn’t even need to use any revives. Horniest, my level 42 Rhyperior, is so tanky that he didn’t care.

At least we’re getting a whole new celebration now.

Next week, we are finally getting something new. Kinda. The Legendary Genies are returning, with a chance to be shiny. And then, after they go away, we’ll be getting their Therian forms. But the Legendary Birds will probably be back before you know it…
