My 5 Least Favourite Shiny Pokemon (that I actually use)

I’m a simple person. If I see something shiny, then I feel I must have it. My brain works like that of a magpie or crow, always gathering shiny items. However, since most magpies and crows can’t use game consoles, they can’t really understand what a shiny Pokemon is. And as we slowly climb towards nearly a thousand different Pokemon, it’s a tad tedious to rate all of them. Instead, in today’s article, I’ll be sticking to only Pokemon that I use. Because, even if we round it down to just Pokemon GO, we’d be here all day.

Garchomp

First up we have a very obvious choice. Shiny Garchomp is barely noticeable in any way. Considering what Gible looks like, Garchomp is a massive let down. I mean, Gible uses my two favourite colours, yellow and blue. So why is Garchomp pretty much the same whether it is shiny or not? In fact, Garchomp is so hard to see if it’s shiny that I haven’t even bothered to produce a picture for it. I have to look for the shiny icon instead.

Luckily, Garchomp does get a much brighter shiny. If you Mega Evolve a Garchomp, it goes bright pink. Which is an odd choice for what is essentially a land shark.

Gengar

Gengar is the original Pokemon with a bad shiny. Its Ghost/Poison typing actually puts it at odds with itself, since poison makes Gengar weak to psychic. Which means that the Pokemon Gengar would normally encounter do super-effective damage to it. But originally, Gengar was somewhat the only way to deal super effective damage against Mewtwo.

Gengars

Luckily, just like Garchomp, Gengar does get a cool Mega Shiny, and one that does generally look cool. However, it would have been nicer to have a good shiny from the start. After all, Gastly has an amazing shiny with the bright cloud of gas. Shiny Haunter though is nearly as bad as shiny Gengar, with only a blue mouth and slightly lighter skin.

Zekrom

I like Zekrom. It and its sibling Reshiram are pretty cool. Sure, between Kyurem and them both, things get pretty damn weird, but they’re still cool. Basically they’re the legendary birds except draconic and with weird kinks. But anyway, Zekrom here really misses out when it comes to being shiny. At least, it does in Pokemon GO. The dark grey skin across most of Zekrom is made slightly greener in shiny Zekrom. On the plus side, when Zekrom attacks, it does have a neat green energy colour as well, making Zekrom seem a little radioactive.

Zekrom shiny

One could also accuse Reshiram of having a mediocre shiny, but Reshiram comes with some cool gold jewellery at least.

Mamoswine

Now, Mamoswine is a Pokemon I use a LOT. Mamoswine and its icy ilk do wonders against dragon types, especially the many flying/dragon Pokemon out there. However, while other ice Pokemon go for either white or purple, Mamoswine has a different problem: it looks like someone pissed on it.

Three shiny Mamoswines

The entirety of Mamoswine has a horrible yellow-green tint, including its tusks slightly. Thankfully, I have a collection of non-shiny Mamoswines for whenever I do dragon-based raids. Unfortunately for shiny Mamoswine, nothing can save it from its own ugliness. And unlike the previous entries here, Swinub and Pilloswine have ugly shinies as well.

Dragonite

shiny dragonite

Of course I’m going to mention Dragonite. This bastard depresses me more than I like. Why the hell is this bastard an awful ugly green? Dragonite has the same problem Mamoswine does, by changing to a weird yellow-green wash. I suppose at least Dragonite’s chest and wings look okay? It’s a shame because Dragonite being pink would look miles better AND it would match Dratini and Dragonair.

Anyway, that’s enough shinies for now. Thankfully every Pokemon on this list has a decent non-shiny colour scheme. Because that would really suck.

Medic

Medic, also known as Arkay, the resident god of death in a local pocket dimension, is the chief editor and main writer of the Daily SPUF, producing most of this site's articles and keeping the website daily.
