So Many 3* Pokemon

This Pokemon season is called the Season of GO. Yes, it’s a stupid name, but June – August are generally when Pokemon GO has its biggest events. But a new season also brings with it some new Pokemon, and a slight change in one’s local spawns. The changes aren’t amazing, however it does mean I get to see Rhyhorn again. Rhyhorn is one of my favourites, and it’s good to see it back.

What does Rhyhorn have to do with anything? Because its final evolution, Rhyperior, is an insanely useful Pokemon. It does well in both raids and the GBL and has a (honestly rather overpowered) move called Rock Wrecker. As the name suggests, it really does wreck everything. Simply put, Rhyperior is the sort of Pokemon where you want a bunch of them. There are plenty of similar Pokemon. Machamp is one of the bigger examples, due to how strong Fighting types are and how many Pokemon are weak to being punched in the face. Melmetal is a good one as well. It’s less powerful in PvE stuff, but in places like the Master League, its wide range of moves and the fact that it’s a Steel type go a long way.

Because these Pokemon are ubiquitously strong, you’re going to want more than one of each. Ideally, you probably want a full team of six for raids, and only a few for GBL, one for each league. So we’re looking at about nine of any Pokemon. Well, any meta Pokemon. And ideally you want to keep the best Pokemon with the best moves and IVs, right?

Well, this is where I start running into problems. Over time, I just seem to accumulate more and more of these more meta Pokemon. In the short time that Rhyhorn has been spawning, I have found a 100% IVs one and a good number of 96-98% ones as well. All amazingly found in the wild, especially while it’s sunny. I in fact have too many 3* Rhyhorns. Way too many. The only problem is needing to get them to evolve with a special move, but I won’t be able to do that for a while.

So now I look like I’m hording Rhyhorns. Some of them are way better than ones I already have, others are definitely worse.  But I don’t want to delete any of them. If I delete them, then I have to level up new ones to take their places. There’s also sentimental reasons as to why I want to keep them. I still have Hornier, who was one of my first >3000cp Pokemon and remained at the top of my Pokebox for a long time. It wasn’t until I started leveling up Tyranitar and Legendary Pokemon that it started to fall from grace.

However, Hornier doesn’t have Rock Wrecker, it’s exclusive move. And, at the same time, Elite TMs are rare as heck. Hornier only ever gets used as a 6th slot for electric-type raids, and doesn’t even get much action any more. At the same time though, Hornier is maxed out and a lucky Pokemon, even if it’s not shiny. I kinda have to keep it, don’t I?

The problem is, I do this for a LOT of Pokemon. Tyranitar, Garchomp, Metagross, all these meta Pokemon, I’ve got more than I need but I don’t want to get rid of them. There are two solutions, really. The first is to go through and purge my Pokemon GO storage. Delete old, unused Pokemon, replace them with better ones. Or I can spend 200 coins and get 50 more Pokemon slots.

As always, I tend to go for the second option. Turns out, 2000 slots just isn’t enough for me.
