5 Pokemon that are Pretty Damn Useless in Pokemon GO

Not all Pokemon are equal. In fact, there’s a ton of inequality in these pocket monsters. On the one hand you have cute birds and little mice. On the other hand, you have terrifying monsters that can flood the entire world. These Pokemon, and every Pokemon between them, can be used by us to participate in battles and raids and things like that.

However, there are some Pokemon that are different. They lack something that sets them apart from the rest of their species. Here are five Pokemon who are pretty damn useless in Pokemon GO.

Party Hat Nidorino

For Pokemon’s anniversary a few years back, we got a raid day, featuring Gengar and Nidorino. Both came with party hats and a shiny form. However, Nidorino could not evolve. Gengar with a party hat would eventually be able to become a Mega a few years later, but Nidorino with a hat was left behind.

Nidorino

However, Nidorino with a party hat is not the only Pokemon to have this problem. There are a multitude of hatted Pokemon that can’t evolve at all, because of the hats.

Slaking

Slaking is one hell of a Pokemon. It’s massive, got great stats and can easily reach over 4000CP. However, all that massive potential is unusable. Slaking’s fast move, Yawn, doesn’t do any damage and only slowly gathers energy for charge attacks. There’s probably a niche use for Slaking in PvP, but not dealing any fast attack damage just doesn’t feel right.

Slaking

You can throw a Slaking into a gym to defend it. After all, a 3000CP+ Pokemon is always going to look intimidating. But Pokemon like Blissey and Snorlax are much better choices, since they can actually fight back. Blissey in particular is great because it has a psychic fast move that counters attackers like Machamp and Lucario, as well as being insanely tanky.

Shedinja

Shedinja is on this list for one reason: In Pokemon GO, it doesn’t have Wonder Guard. In the main games, Shedinja has a pretty cool gimmick, thanks to its ability Wonder Guard, which blocks non-Super Effective attacks. To counter this, Shedinja only has 1HP and can’t gain any more. So as long as you don’t have something Super Effective, you basically can’t kill it…

Shedinja

In Pokemon GO though, there are no abilities at all. Which means Shedinja only has 1 health and dies to pretty much anything, including a sneeze. It’s absolutely pointless.

The Cloned Kanto Starters

Okay, to be fair, these guys aren’t completely useless. You can still use a cloned Venusaur, Blastoise or Charizard on your team, no problem. But these guys lack the ability to Mega Evolve. The same way Shadow Pokemon can’t Mega Evolve. I don’t get why this is though, because you can evolve a Party Hat Charmander into a Charizard, and Charizard with a hat CAN Mega Evolve. The only difference between cloned and normal Pokemon is that cloned ones have some cool alternate skin patterns.

Venusaur

That being said, other Party Hat Pokemon can’t evolve, like Nidorino above. Maybe we’ll get an event where they CAN evolve…

Armoured Mewtwo

The last entry in this list is Armoured Mewtwo. In Pokemon GO, as part of a promotional event for a Pokemon movie, Mewtwo was added as a Legendary Raid and was given a pretty silly set of armour. However, that suit was designed to reduce Mewtwo’s strength. Unfortunately for Mewtwo, that means it can’t use that HUGE attack stat. Weirdly though, unlike all other costumes, this Mewtwo costume AFFECTS MEWTWO’S ACTUAL STATS! He loses some of his attack and gains a little bit of defense. But Mewtwo’s thing has ALWAYS been having sky high damage. Oh and I’m pretty sure that Armoured Mewtwo won’t be able to Mega Evolve either. Really, aside from a couple of extra charge attacks, Armoured Mewtwo brings nothing to the table.

Mewtwo

It’s kinda sad, because I have a 100% Armoured Mewtwo. But he’s just inferior compared to my other, normal Mewtwos.

Medic

Medic, also known as Arkay, the resident god of death in a local pocket dimension, is the chief editor and main writer of the Daily SPUF, producing most of this site's articles and keeping the website daily.
