Small, Amusing, Pointless things I want in Pokemon GO

I love Pokemon GO. It’s one of the few games I can lazily play, no matter where I am and where my phone is. All I have to do is go for a walk and catch a few Pokemon as I do so. However, there are a few little tiny things I want to see in Pokemon GO. Some serious, some… not so serious. Watch out, this is a long list…

Iron Head users should bounce balls back more frequently.

This idea is the idea that pushed me into making this article. Basically, if you have a buddy that knows the move Iron Head, they should help you catch Pokemon more often. I mean, they already headbutt other things but your buddy headbutts things as well. That being said, I wouldn’t just leave it at Iron Head users. Any Pokemon that can learn Iron Head should be included, as should those who know Skull Bash and Zen Headbutt.

Change the colours of Pokestops occasionally.

The Halloween event of 2022 was genuinely very nice, simply because the overworld got a nice makeover. We had piles of fallen Autumn leaves, we had a slightly gloomier outlook and there were cute little carved pumpkins all around. The biggest change though was of Pokestops turning from blue to orange. It’s such a small change but it’s a genuinely nice one. I don’t see why we can’t have something similar for other months.

The only downside is that, well, seasons depend on locations. While it’s Autumn on my side of the planet, it’s Spring on the other side. Makes no sense that Australia and the like would have the same colours as I do here in Cyprus.

Update the catch screen

Speaking of which, I think it’s time to finally update the catch screen. For Halloween, while everything else was Autumn-y, the catch screen was still night and sunny with fresh, green grass. It’s remained unchanged in years. At the very least, it might be nice to see some snow once a year. I was surprised they didn’t change the catch screen like everything else for Halloween, but oh well.

Hit them in their weak spot

Simply put, every Pokemon should have a weak spot that, should you hit with perfect accuracy, has a 100% chance to catch said Pokemon. As for where this weak spot is, it depends on the Pokemon. Some Pokemon, a ball bouncing off their head should work, but perhaps if you are catching a Weepinbell or a Gulpin, hitting them in the mouth should be a weak spot. But for Mewtwo and more human-like Pokemon, it should be right in the crotch.

Send off your buddy to spin a Pokestop for you

Everyone’s seen it, that Pokestop or gym that you just can’t quite reach. For me, that’s a pretty permanent thing, as the only Pokestop near me is just over 80m away. Shitty GPS does help solve the issue occasionally, but I shouldn’t have to rely on having a bad GPS signal in what is essentially a concrete tomb.

So why not send our Pokemon to spin a Pokestop or gym? I mean, our buddies are right there, and they can roam pretty far. Make it a buddy perk if you have to. Heck, make it replace the buddy perk which highlights Pokestops you haven’t spun yet. Because that feature is useless. Getting a buddy to spin a nearby Pokestop once in a blue moon would be so much more useful.

Show the “in a fight” animation on gyms when people are doing a raid.

When a gym is being attacked, you get a cool cartoon-esque effect on said gym, showing that there’s a battle going on inside that gym. It would be cool to have a similar effect in gyms when doing raids. It’s mostly just cosmetic, I guess, but it can at least let you know that other players are around.

If it’s 10CP, automatically catch it

Seriously. I don’t care what Pokemon it is, from a Diglett to a Meltan. If it’s 10CP, you should automatically catch it. It’s a level 1 Pokemon, Pokeballs should treat it as such.

Flying Pokemon need to sit down when using a nanab berry

This is actually one of the most annoying things in Pokemon GO. Flying Pokemon. If a flying Pokemon is high up in the air, the gravity of your ball changes so you can still hit it. However, if the Pokemon breaks out and comes back down, that altered gravity remains, so your ball throw becomes wildly inaccurate.

Using a nanab berry should fix this and reset a Pokemon’s original position. Because currently the only way you can make balls throw normally again is to waste a ball attempting to catch the Pokemon anyway. It’s especially annoying on legendaries like the Latia/os twins and Giratina.

Anyway, that’s enough ideas for now. See you next time when I ramble more about Pokemon GO.
