So I made a Cheese Cake

A while back, when my boyfriend and I were planning meals for our next visit, we both decided we needed something sweet. A pudding was in order, but what sort of pudding? Cake? Brownies? Ice cream? All three? Well, kinda. In the end, boyfriend requested to be surprised by a pudding of my choice. As long as it wasn’t fruity.

So I made a cheese cake.

Now, cheese cake is a rare treat for me. After all, you need cream cheese, and that’s always a bit expensive. Plus you don’t really get that much cheese cake as a result. You’re probably supposed to use a fancier cream cheese like mascapone, but I guess the cheap stuff will do. Oh and by cream cheese, I mean the white, light, soft stuff. Not cheese triangles or anything like that.

Once you have the cream cheese, you still need a few bits and pieces. Most likely digestive biscuits, anything that crumbles up well. Oreos are a favourite, but they are hard to turn into crumbs because of the white centre. That generally gets scrapped out first, and the centres get mixed in with the cream cheese later on. I do find oreos to be a bit too rich at times.

So I made a cheese cake, using ingredients I had on hand.

Luckily I had recently done some shopping, so supplies weren’t too low. Probably should have bought more cream cheese but oh well. What I needed now was to find a recipe that matched the ingredients I had. The cheese cake I wanted to make was a baked one, but many of the recipes I found had so many variants, and a lot of recipes had ingredients I was lacking. Things like sour cream, which I didn’t know could go into a cheese cake.

So I made a cheese cake, using ingredients I had on hand, and decided to wing it.

I honestly just guessed. From videos I had seen, I knew I needed to cream the cream cheese together with sugar until it was smooth. From there on, I had no clue. What I ended up doing was mixing some eggs and melted chocolate into the creamed cream cheese mixture. Luckily, I did know how to make a biscuit base. I used oreos then realised I had no butter, so I used the white oreo centre and some melted chocolate to bind my biscuit base together.

Once I had my biscuit base, I went back to the cheese cake mixture, then whipped some cream up until it was thick, mixed everything else together and poured it over my biscuit base.

Now I had another problem. How long should I bake it for? Again, the recipes varied greatly. I mostly just wanted the eggs to cook, so I cooked it on a lowish heat for about 25 minutes. I then took out and stuck it in the fridge after it had cooled down to room temperature.

At the end of all that, I guess I made a cheese cake. It didn’t look amazine, there were a few darker areas on top where it had burnt slightly. And the biscuit base was kinda crap. But thankfully, it was tasty.

So I made a cheese cake, but it would have been way easier if I had just followed a recipe.
