Oh Bullet Jumping, How Much I’ve Missed You

I’ve recently gotten back into Warframe, and I’ve been having fun. Even if Lua’s Prey was a weak update, it’s been nice just doing missions and Nightwave. But what really makes me feel at home in Warframe is the mobility. I have really, really missed how you move around in Warframe.

Seriously, Warframe’s parkour is pretty damn cool. Most games will just go with a single jump, maybe a double jump. Warframe has both, AND the bullet jump, a magical spiral through the air in whatever direction you are facing. With a series of slides and bullet jumps, leaping past and through enemies is not just fun, it’s efficient. Between jumping, bullet jumping, rolling, sliding and aim-gliding, you can go pretty damn far in Warframe, and at a good pace as well. Throw in wall hopping (it’s sadly not wall-running), void slinging (I miss void dash) and Warframe abilities, playing The Floor is Lava is actually pretty easy.

Bullet jumps in particular are very powerful. They have both great speed and great direction, no matter where you want to go. The coolest thing about a bullet jump though is that it can go in any direction. So you can travel both horizontally and vertically. Or diagonally, if you prefer. Bullet jumping though does require some practice so you can keep up with other players. The best way to move and keep your momentum is to slide into a bullet jump and out of the same bullet jump. You can also throw in a roll or a double jump if you think you won’t make your target.

The best thing though is how there’s very little punishment if you do fuck up. Rather than dying instantly if you fall into lava or off a ledge, you simply respawn near where you fell. All one loses is whatever Warframe buffs were currently up, and most abilities can be cast ever so quickly. Of course, at higher levels, losing your buffs can be a big problem, as there is a chance of being two-shot, but that’s why we have shield gating these days.

There are of course some downsides. I’m a bit rusty and I’ve been missing the odd jump here and there. Some tiles though are just too tight for players to charge through. Mostly infested maps, to be honest – the infested Corpus ship tileset is the worst offender. However there’s always that little door frame or sticking out ledge that can really ruin your flow. With some practice though, one can definitely learn to avoid these little sharp corners, and generally move with great speed in the process.

The bigger downside though is that you can’t bullet jump in most other games. If I play Warframe for too long, when I switch to another game, I always can’t help but try and bullet jump. It’s just so fun and speedy, but also very reliable. It’s not just the bullet jump that I miss, but I also miss how I can chain movement together in order to travel further. Very few games have the mobility that Warframe gives you. It’s all just so much fun.
