Medic Plays Pokemon Violet – Part 0

This Christmas, my lovely boyfriend was very generous and got me Pokemon Violet for Christmas. And of course I almost immediately started to play it. And just like I did with Pokemon Shield, I thought maybe this would be a good series of articles. So that’s what I’m doing, I’m playing through Pokemon Violet.

And so far, it’s actually been a bit… weird. Like a strange roller coaster or something.=

Anyway, let’s get started.

We start off in a very nice, luxurious house. It seems quite large, especially for only two people. Maybe a third, but most Pokemon games don’t seem to have a father. Either way, I’m grabbing my stuff and getting ready for my first day at Pokemon School. And very weirdly, the head master and/or school director of said school has come along and knocked on the door, with some news. Something to do about papers and stuff. After a quick chat with mum, we head outside and I’m given three options for my starter. I get to run around with them while I make my way to the school director’s house, which is literally a mansion down the road.

So I make my way down the road with the three starters following me, and as I reach the mansion, I am introduced to my rival of sorts, the director’s daughter. What’s nice about her is that she’s clearly older than me, and also clearly taking it easy since I am a complete newbie to Pokemon. She could use her normal battling team but decides to play on the same level as me.

Speaking of which, I select my first Pokemon. I decided to go with Weed Cat as my starter. I did kinda want to play as Spicy Dino but I like the cat more.

After that, rival Nemona wants to take me to battle, and teach me how to catch Pokemon. This is all done pretty quickly, and I’m pleased. It must be tiring for veteran players, but at least we get the basics done anyway. Even if I have to catch a LeChonk in the process.

With my new buddy ready, we go for a little wandering around, as we make our way to the light house. Before we do that though, well, uh, we stumble across a big, purple Pokemon, that is being harassed by a bunch of Houndours. Right here, I get pretty disappointed because the game doesn’t give me a chance to catch literally my favourite Pokemon.

Either way, this big purple Pokemon is wounded or sleepy, but a big roar from it makes me fall off a cliff and get closer to the beast. It’s Miraidon, the legendary Pokemon on the cover of Pokemon Violet. I’ve been playing for not even 10 minutes, and I’m already seeing the box legendary. This did happen in Pokemon Shield as well, but in that, the two doggos knocked us out and disappeared. Anyway, I feed Miraidon a sandwich and it perks up, turning into its box-cover form.

I basically follow Miraidon out of a cave, but we bump into a level 40 Houndoom and a bunch of Houndours. Which I still can’t catch. Miraidon saves me and Ringo the Weed Cat and we exit the cave. Nemona is pretty shocked, she’s never seen this Pokemon before either.

We make our way to the light house and run into another trainer, who just so happens to have a Pokeball made for Miraidon. After a random and brief battle, the trainer gives us the Pokeball then buggers off. I’ve got a ton of questions, and no one is really answering them.

Anyway, we climb up the light house and view our surroundings. It’s all pretty nice up here, so I take a moment to rest. Next up, a visit to the first town in the area. Maybe I’ll be able to find more Houndours…
