Primal Reversion Is Nearly Here!

After so long, it seems like we’re finally getting Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon. It’s been quite a few years since Groudon and Kyogre came out in Pokemon GO, and we’ve all been waiting for their primal forms since they came out. Primal Reversion is a massive power boost, and, in the main series games, requires the two Legendary Pokemon to hold a special item each. So how are they going to work in Pokemon GO?

They work pretty much the same way Mega Pokemon do

Starting in the Hoenn Tour event in February, we can finally mega evolve Groudon and Kyogre. Yeah, Primal Reversion is just a mega evolution with a skin on it. Both Groudon and Kyogre need to be defeated in their primal forms for you to obtain the energy and power up your own Groudon or Kyogre. The main difference though is that Primal Pokemon don’t give exactly the same damage buff that Mega Pokemon do. Instead, they actually buff Pokemon of certain types. Primal Kyogre buffs the damage from water, bug and electric Pokemon, while Primal Groudon benefits fire, grass and ground. They are two thirds of the Weather Pokemon, after all.

You also get extra candy for the same types (water, bug, electric or ground, fire, grass) if you have a Primal Pokemon as your buddy. This is also just like Mega Pokemon, but with more types outside a Pokemon’s main typing.

PRECIPICE BLADES AND ORIGIN PULSE

What I am more interested in is that we’re finally also getting the exclusive moves for both Groudon and Kyogre. So, finally, we’ll be getting Origin Pulse and Precipice Blades. Unfortunately, this does kinda screw over people who already have Groudons and Kyogyres, by making them and their moves obsolete. And a LOT of people have got old Groudons and Kyogres. Unfortunately, it’s better to just go out and raid some new Kyogres and Groudons with Origin Pulse and Precipice Blades, than it is to use Elite TMs on the Kyogres and Groudons we already have.

But these moves are worth it, they’re both very powerful, even on just a normal Kyogre or Groudon. With Primal Reversion though, they both become the best of their types, with very little competition aside from potential shadow or Mega Pokemon.

My WonderBlades can’t wait!

However I don’t mind. I can FINALLY make WonderBlades, my 100% Groudon, even better. In fact, I have been saving an Elite TM (or waiting for a way to get new moves) just for my Groudon ever since I caught it in 2019. All these years later and I can finally make WonderBlades as good as he can be, and actually match its namesake. Blimey, it’s been a long wait. I’ve also got enough candy to give WonderBlades a second move, but I have no idea what it will be. Probably Solar Beam, for coverage.

But yeah, these Primal forms are really exciting. After a while of being slightly left behind, two of my favourite legendary Pokemon finally get their special moves, and a massive buff as well. And that’s before we can mega evol-, uh, Primal Reverse these two monsters.
