Mara Sov Fucks Up Again

I normally don’t write much about Destiny 2’s lore. There is so much of it that I find it hard to follow. While there are some great youtube channels that explain the lore, it is all still very messy. However, there is one bit of lore that I do kinda try to follow, especially as Witch Queen comes out. Today though, there is one particular character I want to discuss. Mara Sov, the current queen of the Awoken, always seems to piss me off. And now she’s done something incredibly dumb. Again.

While I can understand occasionally fucking up, pretty much everything Mara Sov does is, well, stupid. Currently though, Mara Sov’s biggest fuck up is so dumb that I am surprised no one said anything about it. Or at least have more people trying to convince her otherwise.

Basically, Mara Sov did nothing to stop Savathun from escaping. Heck, she didn’t even try and stop this long-time bad guy from getting what she wanted.

The start of the last season, Savathun basically possessed the body of Osiris, a Guardian who had lost his light, but was still doing Vanguard things. The Hive Queen wrapped herself and Osiris up inside a magic crystal, then convinced Mara Sov, the queen of the Awoken, to remove Savathun’s worm.

This worm though was special. Savathun’s worm gave her HUGE amounts of power, to the point that Savathun has a whole throne world completely to herself. Between her and Mara Sov, they made a rather basic deal: if Mara Sov helped remove Savathun’s worm, she would release Osiris. This deal was made in front of our player Guardian, as well as Saint-14, Osiris’s partner.

What ended up happening though is pretty damn dumb. After all, Savathun is almost a deity, but she is also very much a trickster with a silver tongue. There was no official deal made between Mara Sov and Savathun. It was all up to interpretation. As with any trickster deity, it is important to record everything and write down exactly what the deal is. But no, Mara Sov just blundered through and let Savathun escape.

Honestly though, looking back, I had no idea what Mara Sov’s actual plan was. Sure, we saved a bunch of Techeuns to help exorcise Savathun’s worm, but after that, what actually was the plan? I’m pretty sure Mara Sov thought she could just stab Savathun after the ritual was complete.

Thing is, this isn’t the first time Mara Sov has fucked up. She claims to have captured a dragon, but Mara Sov got the dragon Taken and we needed to fix the mess. And don’t get me started on all the shitty things Mara Sov did to her own brother. Something which Mara Sov tried to pin on Savathun.

Really, we should have expected this to happen. After all, Savathun has been plotting for years, Mara Sov played straight into Savathun’s hands. There was no way what so ever that Savathun didn’t have an ulterior motive.

So now Savathun can do whatever she wants. Thanks, Mara Sov.
