Why the Heck was Hisuian Voltorb in 7km Eggs?

Pokemon GO’s egg system is probably the most gamble-y thing in Pokemon GO. While it’s nice to walk eggs and see what you hatch, the odds are rarely in your favour. In fact, some eggs are awful, with low chances of hatching anything that’s vaguely good. In fact, most of the time, I find myself hatching things that I could have caught in the wild.

However, I think I’ve stumbled across one of the worst eggs around.

7KM eggs

7km eggs have always been in an awkward slot. You can somewhat control how you obtain them, by opening gifts while you have space for eggs. Much unlike the 2km, 5km and 10km eggs, which all come from spinning Pokestops and Gyms. But the Pokemon inside 7km eggs have always been a bit finicky. They are a bit like a cross between a 5km egg and a 10km egg, and very often contain common things that you don’t want. And they are ALWAYS bloated with some crappy common Pokemon that spawn in the wild as well as in eggs.

One type of 7km egg though was pretty damn awful. Or pretty damn good. It straddles the lines of both good and bad.

A Hisuian Event, July 2022

For this event, we not a new 7km egg. In it were just 4 Pokemon, all from the Hisuian region. Those four Pokemon were Voltorb, Qwilfish,  Growlithe and Sneasel, all in their Hisuian forms. However, both Voltorb and Qwilfish BOTH SPAWN IN THE WILD! A good 30% of Pokemon spawns were fucking Voltorb, and Qwilfish was pretty common as well. Yet there they both were, making these 7KM eggs absolutely dreadful. What makes matters worse is that we have seen so many Hisuian Voltorbs already. It had a debut into Pokemon GO months ago, and popped up in previous events too.

At least Qwilfish is new. But it has a pain in the ass “be a buddy and do stuff” task before you can evolve it. And it also spawned regularly in the wild during this event.

If there was research to get Growlithe and Sneasel, I couldn’t find any of them. So all I could do was hatch eggs and hope that 1/4 chance actually worked. In the end, I did get my Hisuian Growlithe. It only took me 8 eggs. Out of those eggs I got 1 of each Pokemon and 5 Voltorbs.

The real reason why is money. Always money.

There are plenty of people who aren’t as lucky as me, and probably hatched way more eggs. Plenty of people bought Incubators and Super Incubators to speed things up. After all, you can only hold 12 eggs and you have to get rid of the ones you have before you can obtain more. I had that issue, I had to hatch a bunch of 2km eggs to make space for 7km eggs.

Sure, they do this with pretty much every egg. It’s why Audino is in 10km eggs. But the Hisuian 7km eggs are the most blatantly transparent when it comes to this sort of thing. There was even a 200 coin incubator bundle in the shop, baiting people into buying it with pokecoins.

And the most annoying thing about all of this? It works. People love to gamble.
