How to write this rubbish and get away with it

Editor’s note: The article you are about to read was originally written in 2008 by my mum, an all-round amazing woman. Today would have been her birthday, so, instead of writing something myself, I am publishing this article in her memory. Mum was simply the best person ever, who inspired me to start writing myself. It’s an honour to be able to share some of her work with you. I hope you all enjoy this sliver of my mum’s brilliance and insanity. How to write this rubbish and get away with it Who would have thought that a single comment… [Continue Reading]

A Review of Suicide Squad That Isn’t Really a Review

The other week, I went to see Suicide Squad with some family. I’ve always been a fan of super hero movies, and people were saying that this one was good. At the very least, it couldn’t have been much worse than the previous Suicide Squad, right? Well, yes, it was better. But something about Suicide Squad bothered me. Before I get to that, let’s just cover the basics. SOME SPOILERS AHEAD, YOU ARE BEING WARNED NOW. IF YOU DON’T WANT THE MOVIE TO BE SPOILED, THEN LEAVE NOW. And preferably go watch the movie. Because it was legitimately a lot… [Continue Reading]

On Getting Back Into Drawing

A long time ago, I used to draw. In fact, drawing was probably my biggest hobby, especially back in school. It’s something you can do pretty damn easily, since all you need is paper and a drawing implement. However, when I started doing my 500 words a day, my desire to draw faded away. Later depression made me give up on drawing completely, and what little art I did was mostly unseen. These days though, I am slowly getting back into drawing. While I don’t draw nearly as much as I write, it has been quite a change. Pleasant, almost.… [Continue Reading]

Another Article About Spam

The other day, I briefly noticed that there were a lot of spam comments. Normally, I delete these on the regular, but I must have just forgotten lately. Not that it’s a huge problem, I’m the only person who ever sees spam comments. And it’s very easy to get rid of spam as well. All I have to do is click a button, and all those spam messages disappear. What does surprise me though is just how much there is. Seriously, there can be thousands of spam messages if I forget to empty the spam bin. I’m pretty sure that… [Continue Reading]

Eliza and the Nancys

When it comes to anything musical, I am unfortunately a lost cause. Not only can I not hold a tune, but I can’t hold a beat either. While, yes, I love listening to music and singing alone, it’s purely for my own amusement. My singing voice has been compared to a “cat being strangled”. I’m not THAT bad at singing, but the only positive way you can describe my musical talent is “crap but enthusiastic”. Thankfully, the rest of my family not only puts up with my tuneless enthusiasm, but they all have some sort of musical talent. My siblings,… [Continue Reading]

On Painting My Nails

A long time ago, I had an obsession with nail polish. I would happily blow (some) of my pocket money on new colours. In fact, I went for the cheapest and brightest colours available, and kept them all in a hideous red bag. With my massive stockpile of varnishes, I would paint my nails semi-regularly, always trying to do something creative. Heck, I wanted to paint other nails too. And, for some reason, I painted a small Warhammer figurine with nail polish. Simply put, as a crazy teenager, I liked nail polish a little too much. But, for reasons unknown,… [Continue Reading]

Taskmaster

I’ve had a very busy few weeks, but I recently had some time to myself and decided to spend it badly. Over the weekend, I watched pretty much nothing but Taskmaster. And I laughed a lot. But what even is Taskmaster and why am I laughing so much? Taskmaster is a comedy TV show that airs on Channel 4 in the UK, and was originally aired on the channel Dave. Yes, there’s a UK TV channel called Dave. It mostly shows reruns of Top Gear and similar shows. The Dave channel is also home to some panel shows and stuff… [Continue Reading]

A Ramble About Indicators

About twenty minutes ago, I got home from shopping, after one of the most stressful drives in a while. I’m sure we’ve all had one of those days. No matter how confident and safe you are on the road, you simply can’t trust other people to be the same. The trip I make from the shop and back home doesn’t take long, it’s about 10 minutes both ways. Sure, I could theoretically walk to a closer, more expensive shop. But it’s like 32C while in the shade, and most of the walk has no shade at all. As much as… [Continue Reading]

Prisma Machete

A couple of weeks ago, I had an idea for an article, but it was very late. Rather than turning on my computer and immediately writing the idea down, I ended up with this. An article titled “Prisma Machete”. Unfortunately though, I didn’t write anything else down. It was a blank slate, an empty canvas, for me to spew words onto in the future. Returning to the present, I am struggling to think of things to write about. After all, both Pokemon GO and Warframe had their big, yearly events last week. But the title of this article has nothing… [Continue Reading]

The Bloody Awful Design of Local Cans of Cola

I’ll be honest, I like the odd glass of cola. Unlike a lot of people, I’m not too fussed on the whole Coca Cola VS Pepsi war. Ain’t got time for that. However, whenever I have a cola beverage, it has to be sugar free. Now, I’ve rambled about sugar free drinks before. Because I don’t like tea or coffee and most drinks are sugary, I don’t have that many options. Diet and Zero-style colas are generally my best bet if I’m at a restaurant or something. But lately, something has been massively bothering me. The packaging on local brands… [Continue Reading]
